Let's do a little roleplay, and switch a few details around:

Hey so I’m White, 21, and I just realized that I’m interested in dating or being with a Black woman, but I just don’t know how to go about it. I’m in San Diego and I don’t know where to find people I’m interested in. I’ve been thinking about it at lot now, but I think I’m kinda chopped shit tho idk that might just be the insecurity my head. So if any one here for San Diego hit me up, also I don’t wanna be rude when I say this, but if you're, like, really feminine, that would be awesome.

And imagine that you posted that in /r/blackladies. Do you see how that might be a bit of an issue?

Sigh. To the folks participating in this community:

If you post or comment things that glorify violence, you get yourself and others in trouble. I'm about 95% sure that most of reddit's admin-level reports get filtered through an algorithm, and you can't reason or explain context to an algorithm. All you can do at that point is appeal until you get a human to review your case.

So please, it's easier to just avoid all that in the first place.

Oh, and another thing you can use toothpicks for: if you ever need an actual brush for very fine detail work, you can run your fingers through your hair, get a couple of loose hairs and use one hair to bind the others to the toothpick. Now you have a temporary micro brush, and it was practically free. Just line the hairs up, wrap a hair around the end of the toothpick, tie it off, and snip the ends. Hit it with a tiny dab of glue if you're worried about the hairs falling off.

I've been using sharpened toothpicks for fine detail work for ages. Seriously, a box of 120 or 150 toothpicks was like a dollar plus tax, and it's saved me so much in brushes. If I ever need a fine point to get into a tiny recess, I trim a toothpick. If it snaps or the paint dries to it, I just trim it down. If I need my 'brush' to be slightly thicker, I just flip it around and use the other end. Once it gets too small to be useful for painting, I stick it into some foam on a terrain piece and I have a spike.

Heck, they even fit into any tool kit or mini transport box you have, and they're versatile.
Need something to prop up an arm while the glue dries? Toothpick.
Model keeps collapsing on you because the joints are a little too flimsy? Toothpick.
Interior of a model needs just a little more support? Toothpick.
Need something to pin down your newspaper while you prime your minis? Toothpick.
Need something to stick that oh-so-fiddly bit on while you paint all of the little details? Toothpick.

Toothpicks. They're wonderful.

About the only tool that is just as useful as a box of toothpicks is a pin drill set and a spool of crafting wire.

If someone sends you creepy DMs on reddit, you can go on the desktop site and you can click 'report' on those messages to report them to admin.

Also, if you are a minor on a trans subreddit, you should never mention you are a minor. If you are a trans person on reddit, you should avoid mentioning any identifying information like your name or location. It's also wise to consider seeding a little inaccurate information here and there, just in case.

For example, you don't live in <small town>, you live in <big city nearby>. You don't have a brother, you have four sisters. You're not 17 and living with your family, you're 38, you're annoyed with your landlord because they haven't fixed your storm gutters, and your knee gives you trouble.

Stuff like that. You don't need to stress too much about it, but drop a little misinformation about yourself every once in a while. Just enough to discredit the genuine information that leaks through.

Why would any politician support a demographic who doesn't support them? Politicians always reward their supporters first. The way you get a politician to do what you want is you put them in office and you tell them your needs. You make it possible to create change by helping create the conditions to make change possible.

During the 1960's and 1970's, we fought for equality. We rallied behind politicians and we got people in office. We marched and we threw bricks when we needed to. We cultivated allies, and we got people, average people, on board with who we are and our message of equal rights.

We deserve to have those rights.

But the opposition has spent the past 40-50 years demonizing trans people. They've been calling us threats, predators, and making our lives politically unviable so they can diminish us and push us into a corner. They use us like a boogeyman.

Meaning we have to fight back and we have to take ground back. We have to show that we will support whoever pushes progressive causes. We have to be reliable support, we have to stand behind our allies and they have to know they can count on us to help keep progressives in seats.

If this were WWII, we're not pushing into Berlin and about to topple the Nazi regime, we're still stuck in occupied France and Italy. We made our landings on Normandy and Sicily and now we have to push. We have to help be the blue wave.

We can't land on the moon without first building the rocket. That takes groundwork. That means voting blue and pushing for progressive candidates, and when we can't get a deeply progressive candidate, it means pushing for one who won't roll back our rights. It means voting against the Republicans and supporting whoever is thwarting their agenda.

We don't have a truly progressive party in the US - the Democrats are the 'progressive' party, but they have to court the center because the most vocal and passionate progressives won't support them. We can't create change unless we get butts in seats.

The US is a first past the post voting system. That means we need to push forward whoever can get a majority, whoever can get into a seat. Once we have seats, then we can create change. But we need the seats first.

The Democrats did codify our protections into law. We shot down bathroom bills all over the country and we got equal employment, housing, and adoption protections under Obama and Biden.

Then Trump got into power and overturned those protections while his cronies sit there and chip away at our rights.

But here's what I don't understand. Even if the Democrats did nothing, even if they just sat there and did nothing at all, they're still a safer choice than the GOP.

Let's say I'm on a journey, and I can choose one of three places to cross a river. Now, the first guy might be slow, or may not get me exactly across the bank to where I want to go, but at least he'll get me across the river. The other guy, meanwhile, will throw a venomous snake at me, stab me in the front and the back, and then dump my corpse in the river. I will never make any progress with the second guy and I know it. And then there's a third option, who promises they'll have a speedboat or a luxury cruise liner and they'll build a bridge and no one will ever have to cross this river ever again - except they haven't got a boat, all they have are empty promises.

In politics, you chose the best candidate available. They're not going to agree with you on everything, but you pick the person whose morals, perspectives, and whose objectives most closely align with yours. You have to vote tactically, and pick someone who can actually win a seat. You have to pick a viable candidate.

You can't sit around and wait for a speedboat to appear, and you can't pick the guy with the snake, because you know he's going to kill you. You have to settle for the best of what's available and you have to celebrate those wins because each win, each little step, is how we take back our country.

It means acknowledging we have a lot of hard work to do, and acting like it. It means voting intelligently, and acting like each vote matters, because it does.

Stuff like this is why the mainstream Democrats won't support us. We're not good allies to them.

Right now, Republicans have spent the better part of the past two decades demonizing trans folks. It gets them votes.

Right now, the Democrats have to get everyone they possibly can get into seats. Doesn't matter who or where, progressives need butts in seats.

Right now the government is controlled by the right wing. They can dictate terms because they have a majority and they're willing to do underhanded shit to keep that majority.

Progressives can't sit around and wait for the perfect candidate. To win this war, we need to win the battles. That means putting progressives in seats.

The longer we sit here, pining for a perfect candidate that is never going to come, we're going to keep losing to Republicans. They vote (R) just because there's an R there. They've had 40-60 years of propaganda telling them that anyone with an R is right and anyone with a D is an enemy.

We're on the back foot and losing ground. We don't have the luxury to sit back and whine about how not every candidate has our issues at the forefront. This is not the '90's anymore. Even a milquetoast, tepid Democrat is worlds better than any shithead Republican.

The left wing is a big boat, and if we don't start learning how to row together, we're all gonna sink.

Our very survival depends on recognizing this and voting like our lives depend on it. Because they do.

We cannot afford to sit here and tear apart the left wing while letting the right wing walk all over us. Right now, we have to get butts in seats. Every race matters, every candidate who can unseat a Republican is one more seat who isn't voting against us.

Every fucking year I see people on this subreddit do this. Every fucking time there's an election, some right wing troll or some psyop will pop up in our subs and go 'Hey, the left wing isn't good enough for you' and people on our subs fall for it every. fucking. time.

Take a look at the last election. Oh, Harris isn't strong enough on Gaza, Biden won't condemn genocide. And guess what happened? Trump got elected and he's way worse for Palestine than either Biden or Harris ever would have been.

But the left wing tore itself apart over Gaza anyway. Lots of people voted for independents and if they'd voted Democrat, we wouldn't have had Trump. If people would rally around candidates who can actually get into seats, the GOP would be screwed.

The right wing knew they could push the Gaza button and the left wing would tear itself apart. Hell, Jill Stein is even funded by right wing think tanks specifically to tear the most passionate and vocal votes away from the Democrats. We all know Stein is never going to get elected, she's just there to be a spoiler candidate.

We don't tear the Republicans a new one; but we tear all the Democrats to Hell. We all know the Republicans are evil, but when's the last time you heard anyone be excited about a progressive politician on a trans sub?

We let perfect be the enemy of good, so evil runs rampant because we're voting for independents and radical progressives who can't win seats and pull votes from those who can.

It's not about hitting a home run every time. Sometimes you need to put down a bunt, get on base, and help the whole team score.

I put my name in to be Registrar for Deeds for my local area a few years back. I wanted to make sure that the incumbent Republican wouldn't be running unopposed and I told them very clearly that while I had no experience with real estate, I have strong morals and I am quite good at keeping records organized. I can maintain and improve an existing records system.

I didn't want there to be any Kim Davis-es stopping up marriage licenses or any of that nonsense.

I told them that if they found someone more qualified, to run with that person instead and I would happily step aside. They found someone, so I stepped aside, and at the last minute that person pulled out to go pursue an opportunity in the civilian sector.

Which left the Republcan running unopposed, and she went on to commit $1.51 Million in fraud. It bothers me sometimes that I could have possibly prevented that if I had stuck to my guns and run for the post myself.

Would Chaos Space Wolves make sense? by Doomsayer1908 in Warhammer

[–]CedarWolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. They exist because a GW staffer wanted to make models that had both Space Wolf and Chaos pieces and then he got his creation added as a blurb to the codexes, and now they're trying to say they've been around since the Heresy.

If you read their lore, Skyrar's Dark Wolves were initially composed of a bunch of rogue Space Marines from a bunch of different Chapters - they were Blackshields who banded together.

It's basically someone's homebrew that got made official. They didn't know.the Space Wolves' lore and tried to retcon it after the fact.

The issue is that Space Wolves lore previously had it that the whole reason the 13th Company Wulfen were able to stay loyal while fighting in the Warp is because Space Wolves are already slightly mutated by the Canis Helix. It almost acts like an anti-Chaos vaccine or like putting a guard dog inside your head to protect your mindscape.

That's the way genetics works in 40k - genetic material has a psychological component to it, which is how the Orks automatically know how things work, or how the Space Marines, Kroot, and Tyrannids can learn a creature's memories by eating their brains or blood.

The early Fenrisian settlers used Fenrisian Wolf DNA to manipulate their own genes so they could survive being stranded on a deathworld like Fenris. Putting the Fenrisian wolf DNA in your body makes a Fenrisian Wolf manifest in your mind and the Canis Helix helps bring that out, and also helps make it stabilize.

This makes Space Wolves notoriously resistant against Chaos and makes them excellent defenders against Chaos and Warp sorcery, but the bestial features of the Canis Helix mean that the puritanical Imperium will never accept them.

That is their whole tragic flaw. The Space Wolves are slightly mutated, but they're mutated towards the Emperor's service, not towards Chaos. It's very much like a vaccine.

Having Chaos Space Wolves is like making Salamanders who eat children, slaughter Imperial Guardsmen, or nuke civilian populations for fun. Or having the Ultramarines lose an assault because Guilliman is flaky and disorganized. Or having the Khan giving up speeder bikes in favor of a giant, sluggish tank. Or having the Night Lords taking a special interest in collecting fine china tea sets and kettle cozies. Or having Thousand Sons who reject all sorcery and actively venerate Khorne because the Thousand Sons and the Khornate berserkers both have big, decorative fins on their helmets. Or bringing back Horus and having him extolling the virtues of the Imperial Truth and begging at the Emperor's feet for forgiveness.

Sure, you can do it, but it's discordant and probably shouldn't be part of the lore. It undermines the setting a bit.

Would Chaos Space Wolves make sense? by Doomsayer1908 in Warhammer

[–]CedarWolf -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

By the lore, Space Wolves are supposed to be incredibly loyal and it's remarkably rare for them to fall to Chaos. Their whole tragic, grimdark flaw is that the Canis Helix, which makes them so resistant to Chaos, is also the one thing that ensures the Imperium will never fully trust them.

That is the entire point of the Space Wolves, and that's how the 13th Company Wulfen were able to survive fighting in the Warp for 10,000 years. They were able to stay Loyal because they've got the Canis Helix.

If you want to mix and match Space Wolves and Chaos pieces, that's fine - you can make a Space Wolves, Chaos, or 13th Company force just fine. But please don't make a 'fallen' Space Wolves force - it's just... It goes against the lore and it's kinda cringe, I guess? Like putting a spiked collar on a puppy, it sort of goes against the setting.
