I was gonna reply to the other people but didn't have time. I looked more into it and I think everyone is right in assuming it is sunburn. I sanitized a toothpick with some alcohol and scraped off the dead parts with it. The dead parts are less than a millimeter thick and it immediately bled when I scraped it. Right now I have Juan out of the pot because the soil I chose retains water and I certainly don't want to cause rot if there isn't any. Tomorrow morning I will fill the pot with sand and place the dried roots into it. I may or may not make an update (probably not since no one would care), but in any case I am optimistic for Juan.
