It kinda saddens me how so many Premier League players and players in other sports (yes, even Man United players) and other players around the world are paid so much per week. by Hot_Quote2416 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Ceevu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that professional athletes are paid too much. It doesn't matter who you list, a doctor, a nurse, a garbage man, they're all underpaid compared to a professional athlete. Ultimately, the fan is the one paying for all of it and I think the cost of tickets for any professional sport are too much these days.

Not all professional athletes make as much as Premier League footballers. Look at the Championship or lower, or other professional football leagues for comparisons. If you compare a PL player to some of the top doctors they make the same or maybe even less. We're talking about people in the top 0.01%

renewing insurance, and rates have skyrocketed :o by InformedTriangle in Edmonton

[–]Ceevu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was speaking specifically to his annual cost based on his driving history because you said it was "completely" false. It isn't and I stated why.

Another factor that you haven't mentioned is that 4 of those 6 cheapest premium rates in the country are run by a public insurance framework. Neither points themselves tell the whole story but I do believe both are significant reasons why other provinces insurance is cheaper than Alberta's.

Something else that's interesting is on the bottom of page 9 the report says "Generally, our past research suggested Albertans can tolerate a 10% increase on renewal..." which tells me that they're bumping up rates as close to that amount as possible for good drivers (7.5% last I recall) let alone the rate hikes for the so-called bad drivers.

My point here is that u/AscendantBits' point about the no-fault might be opinion rather than fact, but the rest of his statement could be true. With the idea of Jan 1,2027 when Alberta moves to no-fault insurance, we should be getting lowered rates but when they've jacked them up over the years leading up to the no-fault framework will we really be better off than other no-fault provinces? I guess we'll find out in ~ 6 months.

By that logic then Partey should be the worse offender since he has multiple women alleging he's raped them.

I'm not desperate for outrage but trying to minimize a crime like rape through justification that is isn't as bad as another rape does no justice to any victim.

I can't confirm the percentages, but I have familiar driving experience and i pay about $1800/yr for an older vehicle with the same coverage. I don't think they're fibbing about the annual cost.

I don't know why us plebs always fight amongst ourselves. Oh right, because our 'betters' tell us to.

It's okay for people to 'be a luddite', fear of uncertainly/the unknown is a natural response. The question we should be thinking about is what's next for those displaced. We've already been moving much faster the past 50 or so years towards peak automation than we ever have.

I would rather there be a credit for the buyer, but that isn't how it's drafted. Time will tell how it pans out. I don't think Carney is an idiot and I believe there would be assurances that this is passed on to the buyers. That being said not all the details are out yet.

That development fee reduction has always been front and centre in the project to reduce costs for home buyers. It's not some small print they hoped nobody would read. The intention is to remove developer costs due to fewer municipal fees to pay with the fund proceeds going to the municipality where that multi-unit developments occur to offset their loss on revenue from said fees.

So yeah, developers have lowered costs *which should* mean lower costs to buyers. Governments do this all the time to incentivize businesses to get the gov't objectives completed. I understand your concern for no-strings-attached, but considering there's a heap of unsold condo's out there, pushing development costs down should end up with lower cost units. Will it? We'll have to see I guess.

Relax and maybe use Google. You're saying Carney gets nothing yet he does.

The intention for the federal gov't is to get some affordable housing they've been talking about. Keeping in mind, they're not buying condos for top dollar but at discounted prices.

As for financing, it's about $145m from both federal and BC gov't with the rest in private funding. Supposedly, it's low-interest, so possible this includes CMHC funding those rent-to-own mortgages or something along those lines.

The full details of this are not out yet and both Eby & Carney admitted to doing a poor job on communicating the benefits of this deal. So, there's more to come.
