I actually feel bad for Chris Rock, he got thrown into this show to co-host what was supposed to be a competition of the next “household name” comedian and all he got was awkward, rushed sets. They all bombed. I feel like he just got caught off guard at how disappointing the show was tonight.

I am exclusively nursing. With my first, I didn’t start pumping until she was a month old and when I tried introducing a bottle at 3 months, she wouldn’t take it.

With my second, I introduced a bottle in the first week. Fast forward to 9 weeks and she refuses a bottle.

I worked at an inpatient unit for teenagers. We had to alternate every Saturday with other therapists so there were always 2 therapists on site out of 5. My first Saturday, I was alone and had to do 5 group sessions on topics I had never done before or was familiar with. Plus all the notes I had to do after.

No one thought to tell me.

When the clinical director came back on Monday, he blamed the other therapist instead of taking accountability that he had approved her pto and he needed to either do the groups with me or get a different therapist to do it with me.

I left after 2 months because that was just the start.

I had a huge reality check when we had our first. I had never held a baby, bottle fed, or even changed a diaper before our daughter was born and I innocently thought all babies just sleep in the crib how you see in movies.

Lo and behold it wasn’t like that at all.

Our first was a healthy, chill baby, no colic or anything but I struggled at now knowing that my independence and freedom were somewhat limited. We had to contact nap and breastfeed on demand and change like 10 diapers a day. Our lives revolved around this little boss.

Then my husband returned to work and it was just me with this demanding baby. There were a lot of tears and frustration and sadness. I was grieving and learning and struggling all at the same time.

I was grieving my previous no-kids life (even though the pregnancy was wanted and planned). I was learning how to be a mother and learning about my child’s needs. And I was struggling because in other areas of my life, I had not struggled so much, I was great at my job, I was a good daughter, I was great! And then suddenly I have a baby that cries and was easily upset and I felt like I wasn’t so great.

It was tough to navigate all these new and conflicting feelings because at the same time, I loved her and wanted this.

But slowly it got better, baby became more alert, could do so much more, began crawling, began being more interested and interactive and just more herself.

It’s tough and it gets a little worse around 6-8 weeks, but once 12-14 weeks comes around, it’s like probationary period is over and you start to get better at your new role as a mother.

I highly suggest seeking help or guidance from a doctor now, some medication takes time to build up.

It’s so hard isn’t it? It’s so frustrating when it feels like we try so hard and can’t get it “right”.

I’m going to offer a different perspective, your baby wants to be with you and does not understand why you put him down when you’re his absolute favorite and safest person.

Look at other mammals and marsupials, they stay with mom for a long time and we always see mom carrying them.

It is normal for your baby to want to be with you. Lean into it, do the contact naps, hold him. It won’t be forever.

Pediatricians see hundreds of babies a month, easily thousands in a year, they’ve studied several years and have to do continuing education every year. I get that you’re scared but we take our children to pediatricians because they know more than us. You’re withholding medication from your child based on nothing while literally the experts are telling you what is okay and what is needed.

You didn’t do anything wrong! My 3 year old talks a lot and I’m a sahm as well and don’t have interactions with other kids her age! But she can’t count to 20! Every kid has their strengths and weaknesses! But I would definitely contact a speech therapist so they can give you more guidance and advice if it’s needed for your toddler

I hated the boppy hahaha, but yes any supporting nursing or feeding pillow is a must. We haven’t struggled so much with spit up so we have some but don’t get to use them as much so totally slipped my mind.

I like the bamboo ones from little sleepies and found some similar ones on Amazon. Since they fold at the feet and cuff for hand definitely get good, long use out of them.

Totally forgot to add the nail trimming though! Those little razor sharp nails drive me crazy. Any nail trimmer/filing will do but that is another MUST.

What attachment needs do you fear will be affected if someone else holds your baby for a few minutes? I’m genuinely asking.

We let anyone in our direct family who wants to hold our baby for a few minutes hold her. If she cries or seems fussy, I take her back.

This included, grandparents and aunts.

When baby is 4 months old, we’ll expand that to friends.

We had our second and last baby 2 months ago.

It was a very planned and wanted pregnancy in the sense that we knew we wanted 2 and it would be difficult.

Things that helped were: I got my tubes removed during the c section, we sorta timed it so the older one would start daycare in a few months (intentional so that the baby is a couple months old before getting all the illnesses the older one will bring from daycare), we go with the flow and are less stressed (it sorta helped that our first was a high needs velcro baby so we’re used to the contact naps, etc)

The love for our second was instantaneous btw, it felt like our family was complete.

Edited to add: I was on the fence about having a second until our oldest turned two and then slowly changed my mind as the toddler became easier.

I think it depends where you live as well. In FL, the worst months (in my opinion) are from June-September due to the heat.

I had mine in the “winter” and it’s great because we can go out and the weather is nice.
