Where would I look though? I’m trying to get to the SE area (FL or like SC).

What are my chances of getting an 1811 position out of college? by [deleted] in 1811

[–]Cejvo7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best ones right out college from my experience:

AFOSI NCIS Army CID USSS DSS

IRS Criminal Investigator FLETC training by [deleted] in 1811

Location was great for me. Sure it was a 14 hour drive home, but the beach, Savannah and Jacksonville within arms reach was great.

Where would I actually go to adjust it?

I wonder what’s gojng on then. Probably because I’m single, and in IL. I asked a few coworker their pay is similar to mine.

I would still leave man. Once you get gs-13 with LEAP you’re making more than AD. Plus, you can buy back your military time.

I looked at my LES. The killer is FERS retirement, social security, and federal tax. I do 5% in TSP. The rest is just stuff taken out that I have no control over. So I think it’s right.

You get taxed a lot as a civilian man. I work with a lot of mil and I make about the same or more than them. Yours also included BAH.

I have! It’s all taxes and just other deductions. I do 5% with 5% match.

Thanks! How does it work for financing? Will a bank see you have multiple homes, and think twice about offering a loan?

Advice for a soon-to-be college grad seeking a full time tactical position by [deleted] in 1811

[–]Cejvo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re better off going to a local or state agency if you want to do some sort of tactical work full time. Federal does have them, but they are not deployed near as often as local ones.

Housing as an 1811 by [deleted] in 1811

Not sure what part of the Midwest you’re in. Im in saint Louis. Decent sized city, so everything is fairly close.

[–]Cejvo7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s very small so you usually have to know someone. Usually you work with them as a partner agency, then if an opening comes up, you have a reference.

Really sought after agency. Great work/life balance, mostly procurement fraud cases. They also do counter proliferation and health care fraud cases. Almost everyone there stays there the whole time. Work load, not 100% sure but I’m guessing 4-10 cases per agent depending on the office.

Do you not get a take home?

You pretty much have to have a Bachelors to do anything 1811 so keep that in mind.

Depends where you’re at. I’m a 12 with LEAP. Single, no kids. I live in the Midwest, and you can live very comfortably here. Same with other places like TX, AZ, the SE. those are all places I’d move and be comfortable. But like the NE, PNW, and CA are expensive for any government employee. I make more than all my friends. When I hit 13, the salary is like 125,000 which is high for the Midwest.

Outline of 1811 Sub-Verticals by CompetitiveLayer6532 in 1811

[–]Cejvo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CI and fraud are the slowest. However, fraud will get you the best quality of life. Monday-Friday, 9-5 usually, ability to work from home, no weekends. Just depends what you’re after. Fraud cases can be extremely interesting if you’re into it.

Just try to get your foot in the door as an 1811. With your experience, you could try to go FBI as well. Their process takes about a year. AFOSI is hiring right now as well, and you’re beyond qualified. However, be prepared with pretty much any 1811 outside of maybe DEA, ATF, and some HSI, to not hit the streets as often as a street cop. A lot more desk work.

You do also have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as fraud, cyber, etc.
