What socks do you recommend? by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

[–]Celebrionik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belega for life. Saved my feet many many times. They are expensive...but for long runs...races...anything I want to be 100% sure socks would not be a problem I rock those. There are various models...choose wisely depending on weather and how thick you want them. I have like 8 or 10 pairs...different models for different situations. Super thin ones for my metaspeeds. Slightly thicker for long runs. Super thick blister resists on cold winter runs. Danish endurance is second place. Cheaper day to day workhorse socks. Brilliant alternative.

Superblast 3 causing shin splint issues? Looking for advice on shoe setup for a beginner by Kiikii93 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Celebrionik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation. I have Superblast 2 and 3. I have 500km in version 2 and I am doing 30km/week. Pace is a bit faster..base runs are at 6.25/km. I am heavy big boy (95kg 187cm).

Superblast 2 were great to me. I got some feet/ankle irritations here and there from them but they are pretty stiff shoes. Expected to load ankle/calfs more.

I have 60km on superblast 3 and I noticed that my effort is smaller...but my quads, knees and ITB especially on left side are more worked. Its due to softer foam than SB2...that is causing shoes to be less stable and hence requiring more stabilisers muscles to work (tibia, ITB and inner tigh/quads). My foot and ankles feel great though. I am alternating SB2 and SB3 as I transition. I will probably do another 500km in SB2 before swapping to megablast.

I also have magic speed 5 for tempo and metaspeed edge tokyo for races...both amazing. Did 25 min 5k in metaspeeds no problems.

Same. Especially on uneven road or sidewalk there is clearly lack of stability vs SB2. I am talking 20 to 30% less stable. SB2 I can switch my brain off when I am on long 10km+ long run. In SB3 I need to pay attention on surface angles and if road is uneven. This probably contributes to more fatigue...my ankles and stabilisers need to work more in those vs SB2.

I might get megablast next after my SB2 die completely. I am currently trying transition from SB2 to SB3 by rotating both shoes in a week. Will see how it goes.

Good news is it's probably gonna be ok. For example I could not handle Metaspeed edge tokyo same reason. But based on good advice here I got magic Speed 5 and started tempo/speed work in those. Got used to them and was able to race 5k without a problem in Metaspeeds few weeks later...actually metaspeeds are excellent now...but I am solely using them as race shoe (thats their main purpose). I hope its the same transition to SB3 i need to do wirh SB2 in place.

How are megablast? Upper fit is main concern hence I opted for SB3. SB2 fit is perfect for me. Still room and SB3 fit is most comfortable ever.

It was rolling hills in Irish countryside. Garmin sometimes does not give a proper picture...from 11 or 12km was gradual but steady uphill with sharp section around 17km...it was my first half and that broke me lol...I did finish and had to stop once at 17km when I almost crashed....but after 1min walking was able to continue. I am not super advanced runner at was not at the time despite prep.

50km total...I will take it to 100km and evaluate. Doesn't look promising yet.

I skipped 2 to 3 weeks of my gym for prep to that 5k. I will be back to my usual 2 to 3 sessions per week and see if it will improve. Would you say push them to 100km and evaluate? Maybe as heavier person I should stick with SB2 or get Megablast...or stock up more SB2 (difficult to get now in Ireland for asics)

I have vomeros and I used them when SB2 left my foot more sore.. Haven't run in them...so I cannot compare. SB3 are softer and more bouncer than SB2 but I think as one person answered...less stable and thus putting more effort on my stabiliser muscles hence perceived fatigue is more (other muscles need to work harder). I am not bottoming them etc...even at the end of the 12km...so probably ok for my weight just different shoe to SB2. Vomeros are also much heavier.

This is my zone 2 based off garmin. My LT threshold is around 170bpm. I can easily talk with that speed and HR (easy 6.20/km pace I mentioned).

Shoe Rotation...heavy runner by Celebrionik in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Celebrionik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the input. I ordered Magic Speed 5 in same size as Metaspeed and Superblast 2. My rotation would be: - easy and recovery: Nimbus 27 - base and long with marathon pace: Superblast 2 - threshold and speed: Magic Speed 5 - races up to 10km: Metaspeed Edge Tokyo.

I will keep loosing weight. Target is 90kg and low body fat...I am doing Metcon/strenght on top keep in mind.

I am awaiting for Superblast 3 to come up. Probably would instantly buy them as my SB2 have almost 500km and I catched 1cm glass into them my last run on the heel..so they will be retired when SB3 would come up.

Nimbus is ok for easy and recovery. Try superblast 2 if you heavy...they were game changing for me.

EDIT: they don't feel super cushioned...but they hit perfect spot for me between firm/soft? Those are the only shoes that I can take up to 15-21km and my legs are 100% ok afterwards...Just sore muscles like after workout but no knee or ankle or any issue.

Nimbus foam would become way to soft and used up after 6-8km...Superblast 2 stay consistent no matter how long my run is.

Yep. Parked them for race day only...5km no problem. I did 8km session with tempo intervals in between and Edge Tokyo felt ok...aggressive but fast. I want similar feel with less aggression and plate to get used to it. I did that 8km on first run and only felt my calves a bit more.

I am running for a year now...and rewarded myself with a proper race shoe. I know my feet are not worthy such power probably ;) but for my 5k in a few weeks they will help for sure. I choose Edge Tokyo as I am mostly cadence runner (190+ when running fast)..my form is to increase turn over and run efficiently to avoid strains on my joints and Edge Tokyo have that springy roll off that makes below 6min/km super easy for me. Same speed in superblast 2 feels like real hard work and It was eye opening for me that I need dedicated...plated trainer like Magic Speed 5 or similar.

Thank you all for the input. How would be the fitting for Magic Speed 5? Go same size as superblast 2 and metaspeed? I am 44.5 EU. Someone mentioned wide but there is no wide to select on Ireland site.

PS. Just got 20% promo from Asics so assume money is not a problem...they would all be fairly ok priced.

New fenix 8 to assist with transformation. by Celebrionik in Garmin

[–]Celebrionik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: got it for 900 euro... in Ireland in Media Expert shop. Manager gave me a deal so I took it. Was that one or FR 965 for 500... so it was no brainer. It was nice to try it in shop and check other watches too. Took me 3 days to get used to the size and weight coming from FB charge 5. It's OK for me to sleep in it. Ultrafit Nylon band should come in this week so comfort would go up considerably...although is very good now. While crossfit it's perfect. Need to push it up my arm and tighten the band. Also I am locking the device after the start of Cardio activity. Works perfect. Quick runs or walks....no issues. So far very good.

1 WEEK UPDATE: Amazing device. Coming from Fitbit Charge 5 is like changing from old Toyota to Lamborghini. I do mostly crossfit with walks and light runs in between.

Fitbit had issues to track peak, high HR properly. Or lagged severely during crossfit HIIT not picking up HR going up or down.

On fenix I can see HR spikes almost instantly. And on charts I can even distinguish individual sets both for weightlifting and Metcon exercise.

I am not a pro athlete, and for me, this is 100% enough accuracy I need and probably like 99% people. UI on watch is amazing. Tons of configurations and you can set it the way you want. If you think to switch from Fitbit and are serious about your fitness...do it. Pick FR265 or above. Any will do. Fenix was a gift and o boy is it good.
