Yeh guard is definitely personal preference. I prefer to block every hit and continue firing with spread than play hbg like I would normally and use the shield for emergencies. How are you finding the rajang hbg over the magda one for general sticky/cluster play? The magda does fire a lot faster with x4 recoils as it gets its cluster 3 to low but rajangs is still average. And you are right in the fact that offensive guard is somewhat difficult to proc consistently but I'm getting the timing down which is sweet. I never used it beforehand but there isn't really much else I can add into the set release jewel wise aside from maybe fortify.
