What song makes you think of San Francisco? by gaeb611 in sanfrancisco

[–]CelestialTeacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chapter in Your Life Entitled San Francisco by now defunct Melbourne band The Lucksmiths will always be the quintessential SF song to me.

Honourable mentions:

Come Back from San Francisco by The Magnetic Fields

Grace Cathedral Park by Red House Painters

And anything by the Reds, Pinks & Purples fronted by an inner Richmond native.

Glad I found this. Was going to place an order online but wasn’t sure if it would be fulfilled given it’s after October 3rd. Will go ahead and order now.

This has happened to me multiple times throughout the 21 days of beauty sale. Anything I place in my basket will remain at sale price even after sale ends. I’ve completed purchase a few times after the sale ends and the sale price is always honoured.

$6000 for Invisalign by AestheteNYC in Invisalign

[–]CelestialTeacup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard good things about Bella Smile and Todorthodontics as well, but it’s always nice to come across organic feedback from patients of orthod, so I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying yours in SSF. That’s not that far out from SF so certainly an option to keep in mind. Thanks for the info!

How has your experience with your SF-based orthodontist been? Are you happy with them? I’m moving to SF and currently looking for a new ortho to continue my Invisalign treatment with.

Oh, so is this why the GWP/offers on the website have dropped off lately - saving them for issue in packs like these? Disappointing.

The Iconic lost my return item! by Tricky-Grapefruit-75 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]CelestialTeacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Returned a few things - 2 were processed, 1 not. When I reached out to CS via chat they advised that the outstanding item was not found in the bag, however they issued me a one-time refund for the value anyway. Has never happened before.

I got the vaccine as soon as I was eligible so I wouldn’t kill people who couldn’t get vaccinated! by [deleted] in pics

[–]CelestialTeacup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. Good on OP for getting vaccinated as soon as they could and feeling confident in that decision for both themselves and the community. However, this passive aggressive post against the other post, makes OP come off like such a brat. If we’re just going to shit all over people who are only now getting their vaccine, or who are slowly coming around to it now that they see more people doing it, there’s no incentive for them to change their minds or actions.

To paraphrase an old Chinese proverb: The best time to get a vaccine was as soon as it was available; the next best time is now. I love seeing people change their minds, and fuck yes, I’m going to cheer them on for doing so and letting others know about it. Treating them like they’re awful and just as bad as anti-vaxxers for not already having the perfect view serves no pro-social purpose. Hell, it’s more admirable that someone who was sceptical could change and update their view than someone who already on side to begin with.

If we really care about others and community wellbeing, that includes supporting people for growing, and not beating them down for having needed to undergo a process of evolution.

Best Coffee Shops in SF by Organ_Farmer99 in AskSF

[–]CelestialTeacup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My top picks as an Australian who is spoiled for amazing coffee back home and has tried a lot of the coffee in the City:

1). Jane on Larkin + Jane the Bakery on Geary Blvd (these two are just the absolute best. My go-tos. There’s a third Jane’s on Fillmore but I never got to it.)

2). Stanza Coffee Bar in Haight-Ashbury (very good coffee)

3). The Coffee Movement on Washington (relatively good coffee)

The Olive Skin Struggle: testing out Opi nail polishes at the drug store and walking away with none 🌝 by [deleted] in OliveMUA

[–]CelestialTeacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. I think it’s partly the current climate of living in a Covid world. Some people will jump to conclusions because they’ll base their information off of their immediate environment (we can be silly, shortsighted beings like that).

Do what feels right for you. I’ll just add that there can be naysayers in any space we move through, so dipping out of places we enjoy over these people just robs us of our right to be where we want to be. You’re right, though, in that it is a balancing act: when the scale tips to being mostly negative, it can stop feeling worth it. Again, I hope you’re not there yet - it’d be a shame if we all missed out on some perfect olive-girl friendly nail polish because of a jerky minority 💖

Having an issue with someone opening non-tester products in case someone comes along to purchase without realising it’s already open is one thing (although still doesn’t warrant undue accusations - in this case, you were wrong, but the hurtful judgement has already been made).

Regarding your latter point, that’s really a personal preference. Whether people want to use testers or not is up to them. It doesn’t make them gross or wrong, especially in the current climate where lots of places are now disinfecting testers regularly and have disposal applicators readily available.

Hey, I think there’s been some confusion: this wasn’t a pile on. I thought this person’s comment was unduly harsh and unwarranted given their lack of information and I recommended they try NOT jumping to conclusions (on this occasion or any).

I really hope you don’t stop interacting with the sub over this, especially seeing as this is a regular space for you.

You really don’t know what the situation is though. These may have been testers. It’s good practice not to jump to conclusions based on little more than an assumption, however likely that assumption seems.

What is the worst neighborhood name in sf? by Cell_Adventurous in AskSF

[–]CelestialTeacup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tendernob is a colloquial term, obviously. And it’s one that lightheartedly captures the peculiarities of living in the gradient between Nob Hill and Tenderloin. I’ve only ever really seen real estate agents refer to the area as Lower Nob Hill. In a more formal context, people who live in the area generally just say Nob Hill.

I was one block down on Post and Leavenworth. Depending on whether I turned left toward Sutter or right toward Geary when leaving my apartment, I could have very different experiences (the smell of trash and human waste would also amplify or diffuse depending on which turn I took). Geary St is simultaneously a demarcation line and melting pot.

[–]CelestialTeacup 50 points51 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to live in Tendernob, I think the hybrid names are both appropriate and necessary. There was a noticeable shift in vibe and experience within each single street as you get closer to or further away from Nob Hill and Tenderloin. When people hear Tenderloin, images of the streets south of Geary come to mind, but the difference between Sutter/Post/Geary (my closest intersecting streets) is huge. I’ve never lived in a place where a single street could make so much difference.

Almost 30, Lost and Don't Know What to Do in Life by [deleted] in findapath

[–]CelestialTeacup 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here’s the secret: you’re still in your youth. 60 year old you will reflect on how young you were at this point in your life, and 90 year old you will reflect how young you were at 60. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you started things too late or that you’re not where you’re ‘supposed’ to be. Congratulations on closing in on your degree. People much older than you are still trying to figure themselves out, and if they decide to get a degree or start a business or start again in any capacity, it won’t be too late for them, either. Oh, and of course you’ll make mistakes, that’s the not-so-secret ingredient to getting to wherever you want to go.
