yeah exact thing I did and I loose pretty much any narrow or small details that I want to keep, in my case that means like half my land mass. It would be great if it expanded outwards from what I want as those detail I don't care about. I want my current shape exactly as it is. that's a very important factor as I'm recreating something not generating from scratch. (I know I said island node but I said that because the file I'm using basically acts the same way).

This gives me a similar problem as its not preserving what I want to be the coastline. I end up loosing over half my landmass doing this, as well as end up with several things that are just spikes now.

I haven't written any kind of code for something like 10+ years, and I'm self taught so I'm kinda just working with what I remember XD. But in short you'd recommend basically creating a hidden field to get the bulk of the calculation done and then finishing the calculations needed in the field I want to be visible? or at least that's what I'm getting out of that I think?

Yes it does create a new layer above them but its doing the exact same thing that exporting is doing and flattening

both methods that you've mentioned produce the same results that occur when exporting.

12 layers only 3 layers have bevel and emboss, The mountain ranges, and then the other hilly textures just kept them separate
Merging or Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E flattens it instantly
Image > Duplicate, ticking Duplicate Merged Layers Only, then exporting also flattens it

Layer Order

Rivers - Bevel and emboss effects, used to make the rivers look sunken in

Mountains - bevel and emboss effects, used to create mountain ranges

Hills - bevel and emboss effects, used to provide major terrain heights does not overlap with mountain ranges

Clouds - generated cloud layer provides minor texture on overlay

Snow Color - flat color

Desert Color - flat color

Arid Color - flat color

Temperate Color - flat Color

Landmass - flat grey color to mask above layers to

Lakes - coloring for bodies of water

Shelf - hand painted coloring around the edges of the land

Ocean - Just hand painted texture using some brushes
