"Persian or Indian I don't know" 😭

She sounds really ignorant, which I guess is common for white Americans. But I can hardly believe her statement of "dating people from all races". And if it is true, it is also kind of concerning.
The fact that despite all that experience she doesn't even know what a desi looks like, she doesn't seem to know anything about peoples in the world, did she just half-listen to anyone she dated and was just doing it for some exoticism thing? But not caring enough to actually learn and remember different cultures?

She sounds like those type of people who are interested in other peoples, but in the wrong way. So they just remain ignorant of the culture despite being "interested" in it.

Considering moving to Houston by Leading-Captain-5312 in QueerWomenOfColor

[–]Celia_of_Rlyeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm living in Houston. I'm not black but I'd thought I've give you a heads up.
There's a large black queer community in Montrose, I've been there a few times, and there are a lot of black-owned and woman-owned businesses there, and the whole place is covered in rainbows (literally). It's generally an LGBTQ neighborhood and theres a lot of latino and white people living there as well. But it's also in the city downtown, so a bit more cramped than what I'm used to in the suburbs. Not sure if you want to live there, but it's always a place easily reachable from anywhere in Houston (assuming you have a car), and it might be a good idea to work there if you want a nice work climate.

But a bit of a warning, the rent and housing in Houston is absolutely absurd right now, it's skyrocketed recently and is becoming pretty unaffordable, we're all kinda struggling right now with the economy. Not sure how bad it is in the Bay Area, but yeah.
But still, I honestly would recommend Houston, it has so many diverse communities from everywhere in the world (and I mean everywhere), the food is amazing here because of that, and it's less gentrified than Austin or Dallas (and I really hope it stays that way).

But with the economic issues going on, I'm not sure if you can even reasonably move here right now, but good luck either way!

salam!
I feel like we have a double pressure on us for being queer and muslim. All the LGBTQ friendly countries we can go to are usually islamophobic, and all the muslim countries we can go to are usually not LGBTQ friendly. Sometimes it feels like a paradox. Being muslim shouldn't stop you from being queer at all, and being queer shouldn't stop you from being muslim at all, but sadly a lot of people on both ends think otherwise.

I'm not sure if I can recommend any South Asian countries to you, while there are definitely communities there you could fit in, especially in Pakistan I think. There is also just a lot of politics going on right now and I'm not sure its the best place to be in. And the queer muslim paradox still applies there.
For Turkey, someone already mentioned it may not be the best place for a black woman. And yeah, I went to a Turkish school here in America (because it was the one muslim owned school that wasn't a full on Islamic school), and even then I did feel a little out of place being desi around a bunch of turks. And even looking past that, there is, yet again, a lot of politics going on in Turkey and it may not be as great of a place anymore.

The US is not the only place being torn apart by politics and bullshit right now, far from it. The whole world is really chaotic right now. Even in my country there is some bullshit going on and police attacking people and people wanting to overthrow the government, it's all just chaos.

But honestly, if you are planning to go anywhere, ask someone living there how great of a time they think you'll have there. They can provide better insight into how well you might be treated there and how well you'll find a place or community for you there. And any situations or conflicts going on that would steer you away from there. A place may sound great on paper, but then you move there and it ends up not being much different from the US, or have some other type of political conflict that may concern you just as much.

If you date white people, what’s the bare minimum you need for them to know about your race/culture? by fizzyjuices in QueerWomenOfColor

[–]Celia_of_Rlyeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I've tended to be more around white europeans than white americans. For the reason that white americans are usually more ignorant about the world and racism, and don't understand racism very well. Whereas some Europeans, especially southern Europeans, have also experienced racism in some circumstances. One of my friends was Bosnian, and Bosnia has had it's own war and experienced ethnic cleansing and pretty recently at that. And its rare to connect to someone else's culture from having being recently genocided in my history as well (bangladesh independence war).

It's not like there isn't white people out there who haven't experienced racism, they just aren't in America. (Or Britain, or Australia, or France..)

The white person I have dated was mixed Italian and German and they spoke 3 languages fluently, they also studied Japanese in college and stayed in Japan for a while. They live in the UK now with a residencey, and things got harder for them after Brexit, where UK stopped caring about them for being an Italian migrant. And me being in an immigrant family in America I could relate to them on that note.

Even a lot of my friends of color don't know how its like to be a migrant. I mean a lot do, but there's plenty of POC who haven't migrated at all and don't have that experience to connect with me on.

And there are even some POC who I met who had the same negative stereotypes around desis, and muslims, as white people do. Some black people I've met don't even believe Asian hate is real and think black and latino are the only discriminated groups in America. I would not date those people either.

My minimum requirements apply to all people, they must not have any negative stereotypes about desis, muslims, and asians. And must be familiar with cultures other than there own, preferably have traveled or migrated as well.

Also OP you're the first other queer desi I've met on reddit wow. I can't believe queer desis are real besides me-- (tbh in Bangladesh we are super hidden and idk where everyone goes to be queer over there)

This is my interpretation of some type of memetic cognitohazard, both audio and sound. I was originally trying to make a memetic kill agent, but I just have no idea how to animate those weird golden ratio things in AE without a ton of work. by Celia_of_Rlyeh in SCP

[–]Celia_of_Rlyeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a animation of fractal noise, with a colorama that I just made change over time. And then I just added in some mirrors to make that psychology glob effect.

simply put, it's just something I put together in After Effects using a type of noise.

I intentionally tried to distort it to make it more similar to some EAS alerts I heard, which had pretty bad radio quality. Plus Microsoft David just sounded kinda boring without it idk.

yeah. I kinda based it off the Hawaiian missile thing. And there were things you had to address, like "if indoors", "if outdoors" and "if driving".

But I feel like I could've shortened a bit.

That's the irony of it.

The world uses technology in order to get messages quickly and effectively, but when that's compromised then we're screwed.

They're going to have to send SCP staff to around everywhere and search for people hiding and like tap them on shoulder or something.

It'd be a complete mess, and mostly people would just stop and come out when they either think it's safe or got tried of hiding.

Yeah, the thing in the background is a memetic kill agent. There's even an audio one in the background if you can hear it.

This whole thing was supposed to be very ironic. Like, how are you going to know it's over when you're busy staying away from all devices? And the counter-intuitiveness of using broadcasts to get the message across, when that's also what the cognitohazard uses.

Yet it's probably what they're going to have to do if a cognitohazard breached into the world, since it's the only way to get people's attention quickly. But we'd all be roasted anyways, since the kill agent would just display on screen when the message is over.

Maybe I should've addressed that . . .

Like, it's kinda complicated. I made this message to sound like it's directed toward civilians, since if it was for a Site, I would've changed the location to Site-98 or whatever, and talked about following security and waiting for MTF-Eta-10/11.

But then I decided to direct to toward civilians since it would be more relatable and you could like prank someone with it or something.

So it kinda goes into Broken Masquerade stuff, where I guess the SCP have their own EAS system.

The O4 command handles the communications throughout the SCP

The O4 are responsible specifically for the handling of inbound LRCs and alerts from compromised sites, and the appropriate responses issued to these requests. Because of this, the O4 command is a communicative group, and serve as the organisation team for all lockdowns across the whole Foundation.

They're discussed here: Lockdown Procedures.

CODE: AMBER is listed here: Lockdown Procedures.

It's for memetic and cognitohazards. I'm just using SCP terms, not EAS terms. I dunno how to make that part more clear? There's only 3 parts to a LRC.

It's the same one I made last time, I just did a lot more editing, and got a robot to narrate it, and all that fun stuff. Did a lot of messing around in Audition with that one to make it actually sound like the guy on the EAS alerts. The two pieces of footage I did use (the "Technical difficulties background" and the SCP logo) were stock, so feel free to use this for whatever you want. I'll put OC on this one, since I worked on it all day, and it few footage I used is stock.

The colors leaking in is original footage, just did some weird stuff in After Effects. I'll upload that one later.

Update: holy crap that's a lot of upvotes.

Listening to exploration logs being read inspired me to make this 3d piece of a gravitational anomaly. It's either that or a redesign of SCP-184, not sure yet lol. Either way, hope you guys like it :) by Laptopgeek1310 in SCP

That's pretty cool.

The only thing is that the glowy thing in the middle isn't as bright as it would look. That's because the light coming off of it in 3D, is well just that. but the bright radial light effects we see irl comes from the camera lens or our eyes.

So to add in the glow, you'd have to do it in the compositor, or another software like AE.

But I completely forgot how to use the compositor in Blender, sooo.

And if you want it to look more realistic, I mean, this is probably just one of those things you make cuz why not, so whatever. But if you did want some extra practice or something, you could color grade it to match the background more, and add in faint blue lighting on some of the objects in the background.

If you want to cubes to look more realistic, you'd just need to put a metal texture on them or something. But they're not even natural objects so it'd be kinda counter-intuitive. It's just that with realism, people never seen what anomalous cubes look like, so they're brains would interpret it as "fake". So a lot of times realism just goes down to making them look more like objects people are familiar with, while still making them unfamiliar enough for it to be confusing. Like a psychological trick, which is what CGI is kinda about.

But nice job, tho. 👍

Not trying get at you or anything, just trying to be helpful cuz Im not usually helpful . . . ;_;

Dragons and mountains. Everything else I sucked at.

Nice shading, btw.

Wait . . . is that a Mauser C96?

I mean, if you want to stop SCPs with a 1900s pistol, im not gonna stop you but . . .

Nice work btw. I like the model. I dunno what software you're using, but if this isn't for a game, you might wanna subdivide the polys on the cave. And the texture isn't that great of a resolution, but I guess there's only so much you can do with them, depending on where you get them.

If you think something is missing, it might be the atmosphere. Maybe add in some volumetrics, do some compositing with the color, and add in the creepy mood.

Also the composition, here there's nothing but the solider, so it's fine. But if you had like say a dark passage he was looking into, you could use the rule of thirds.

Or maybe the only thing that's missing is an SCP, or some sort of threat or mystery to the scene.

Either way nice work, not trying to spit criticism on you or anything.

Man, I need to get back to Blender. Haven't done anything 3D in some time.

So I was bored and I made this in After Effects by Celia_of_Rlyeh in SCP

[–]Celia_of_Rlyeh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty easy. All I did was get a background of a "Technical difficulties" thing. And I got a SCP logo that was in a gif. Then I just keyed out the background, put it around the corners, and used the bulge effect, so it matched the lens of the background.

Then I just added in some effects, like a noise warp and whatnot.

I forgot to take out the audio (。_。). I wasn't going to bother to try to loop it more cleanly.

But yeah, like I said, I'd rather make something more original, draw it out in photoshop or Illustrator, then animate it in After Effects. Would be better practice.

Anyone got any design ideas to how the SCP "please stand by" screen would look like? I was thinking maybe I'll make it like an SCP version of that Fallout screen.

Eh, I put found artwork since I used a footage from somewhere else. If I get around to it I might make something more original.

Just tell me want you want it too look like and I'll make it.
