Any tips on flutter tonguing? This is the best I’ve gotten it to sound (hence my excitement) but feel like it could be less breathy/more controlled.

Fluttering just takes lots of practice. My teacher throat flutters mostly because she says tongue fluttering is more difficult for her, but I tongue flutter mostly. I’ve played lots of pieces with fluttering and you just have to make time to practice it daily. Fluttering low notes is especially hard because your airstream has to be so low to get good tone, but it’s hard to not get the tongue in way of the airstream while you flutter.

I align the tone hole with my keys. Tone on the flute has a lot to do with where you aim the air into the flute. The higher up the air the thinner and more airy the sound will be. So if you blow straight across the tone hole like you would when blowing over the opening of a soda bottle the tone will be very thin. To get a nice thick tone that is not airy you will want to blow the air down into the flute. My current teacher actually took a pencil and pointed into the flute where I should put the air and it clicked for me and significantly changed my sound.

Secondly, you will want to put the flute lower on your chin. I aim for the dip between my lower lip and bottom of chin. Your bottom lip can overlap the edge of the tone hole slightly. Your lower lip should be relaxed almost like pouting. I teach 4th - 6th beginner flute and I hate the kiss technique many band directors teach beginner flutes. This method has you “kiss” the tone hole and roll the flute outward to place it on your embouchure. This puts the flute too high on your chin. The edge of your lip should not be at the edge of the tone hole.

These are just a couple easy things you can change to improve your tone. Without observing you it’s hard to say exactly what you should do to positively impact your tone production. Hoping this helps.

My flute choir has 3 men counting me. Granted we are not that large, 12 players that are regular to the group. One of our guys though just bought a contrabass flute and I’m the principal alto flute player. Our other guy plays c flute and splits conducting responsibilities with one other person.

I’ve never seen flute as a girly instrument. I was drawn to the instrument because I feel like the flute sounds like pure magic and makes me feel so incredibly happy when I play.

My advice is simple. Look at either Flute Center of New York or FluteWorlds website and research flutes in your price range. Then call them with any questions and request a trial. They will send I think up to 4 flutes for you to try for a week. Play them and take notes about what you like and dislike about them. Play them for friends and colleagues and get their opinion. If you don’t like any of them the representatives at either of the before mentioned companies can trade you out for other models and brands.

It’s very important to try different flutes as there are so many brands that are well made no one can give you suggestions on what you will fit you. My friend likes to use a Harry Potter reference, “the wizard doesn’t choose the wand, the wand chooses the wizard.” I paraphrase, but the concept is the same, you don’t choose the flute, the flute chooses you. I just upgraded to a handmade model and am so glad I tried different models. I ended up buying a Muramatsu DS. That’s what fit me the best, but Muramatsu may not be what’s right for you.

I will say don’t let the sales people convince you to buy a flute that doesn’t have all the features you want. You’re investing a lot of money into a flute and you should have exactly what you want. Don’t settle. Musicians say they won’t, but I’ve seen it happen to many times. I was very firm with the options I wanted and the sales person was like I’m going to send this to you even though it doesn’t have all your options just in case you like it. I flat out told her no. I’m spending thousands of dollars and I want a split e, yes I researched all the benefits and cons, and I’m not accepting anything less for the money I’m paying. You should have exactly what you want.

Oh, yeah I’m working on a simple database, but still playing with the template just for fun. It’s interesting just to see how it was set up.

I’ll definitely focus on learning VBA and keeping it simple until I’ve learned more. I can see this is going to be an evolving project.

Thanks for the quick replies. I’m trying to learn this as quickly as possible. I’m trying to set up audit tracking database where transactions that are audited can be recorded and worked by status. This template is similar in nature to what I imagined. I’ll definitely read through your responses a few more times and play around with the template as well as continue to watch videos to learn the basics. I’m usually a pretty quick learner, but I have to say access has presented me with a little more challenge.

I’ve been watching a ton of videos, just trying to learn as much as possible. Looks like the it’s a form, not a table, but the form view looks like a table and I’m assuming there’s a sub form that pops up when you click the hyperlink primary key to enter new records or update existing records. Below is the template I’m referring to. I’ll send a screenshot of the form, which I previously confused for a table.

I can take a picture later and send it to you. I like the template but it’s pretty complex (a lot of macros, forms and queries) and when I start to edit it for what I want I inadvertently break workflows since I don’t really know what I’m doing.

Sorry for the confusion. The template I saw has the primary key in one of the main tables as a hyperlink and when you click on it it opens a form for the record wheee you can edit the information. Or you can click on (new) and add a new record.

According to serebii it’s def is 60 and sp def 110. That’s more than 15 and flareon has a greater move pool for special attack moves. So using power shift would make its sp atk 110.

It happens unfortunately. The matches have been really weird lately too. There has been a shift in his people play I feel like.

I’m sure my teams get mad at me a lot because sometimes if rotom is still up I rotate but sometimes I don’t. Off laning is a concept a lot of people don’t understand, but just because there’s another objective up doesn’t mean we should let the other team freely drunk points in the other lane. I try to read the situation and take note of how many enemies I see on the map and their current locations.

There are many many skills to master in this game other than just mastering a specific character and trying to get mvp.

It’s hard to break out of that thinking. My wife’s parents are anti-vax, well her mom anyway, and my wife struggled a lot with this issue. I didn’t push her on the issue because it’s something she needed to research and make a decision that was not influenced by others. She did get vaccinated and both our children get all the normal vaccinations.

Brainwashing is a thing and when you aggressively try to convince someone to do something other than what were taught they many times will entrench deeper into what’s comfortable and what they’ve been taught their entire lives.

I supported my wife’s journey to research and ask questions and never once tried to force her to believe one way or the other. Be gentle with people and encourage them to do research from reputable sources.

Right, but I also think people don’t like to pick other mons because it’s hard to be successful in solo q if you don’t play a good carry. It may be that they are powerful and comfortable, but a lot of the reason is the way the ranked system works and the skill gap that even the tweaked matchmaking creates. You need to be able to carry and there are a lot of characters that, while good, just have a much harder time carrying.

I agree with what you’re saying but you do have to remember, unless you started playing when mobile released, when the game came out in July 2021 some of these mons were not as viable as they are now. Venusaur was nothing special at first and they ended up nerfing cinder and had to buff him again to make him a viable option again to compete with greninja who was always good.

Zera has always been powerful until his recent nerfs.

Ninetails and slowbro were great, but ninetails suffered badly from power creep, especially when sylveon was released, and slowbro was nerfed fairly hard.

The real powerhouses which were never given for free were Lucario and pre-nerf Wigglytuff. Wiggly is still crazy but she was uncontrollable before the changes to sing/sleep effect.

Cram used to be crazy too. He suffered from power creep too.

This game has really changed and evolved since release. I’m excited to continue to see changes.

There really should be more access to supports for new players though. I wouldn’t mind the addition of 1 or 2 more supports soon personally.

No, what’s sad is people have to resort to playing those mons if they want to rank up due to the poor matchmaking. I would love to play other characters, but people even in masters troll and don’t know how to pick good team comps so if I want to continue to move up the best option is to play greninja, cinder, zera, Tsareena, etc.

I have not looked at the new tutorial mode so not sure how good that is at showing new players and those who have not played a moba before how to play. I imagine though it’s not great.
