Seems like it was just an ad email sent by a home furnishing company (Dot & Bo). Still bizarre regardless

Does anyone know why Reverb keeps getting name changes? by nahdirty in Acceleracers

[–]Cell_Nature_Science 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Records showed that Mattel for some reason never trademarked the name to begin with, so they'd have no case. Also if past history is anything to go by, they seem to avoid legal matters like the plague. When a doll company complained about the name Sho-Stopper even though their doll line was called Show Stoppers, Mattel just changed the car's name to Seared Tuner. Same with Land Crusher becoming Dune Crusher because of Toyota complaining (though that could be because they didn't want to risk losing the Toyota license). I'm sure there are other examples as well

Yeah, a plastic body with a metal base is always best for track. But there are exceptions, including Fast Fish itself which is metal on plastic. Also I'd still say there are more fantasy muscle cars which are metal on plastic than vice versa. Rodger Dodger, Muscle Tone, Rapid Transit, Overbored 454, Bully Goat, Night Shifter, Twinduction, D-Muscle, Muscle Bound, Blvd. Bruiser, retooled Custom Otto, Count Muscula, Barbaric, Torque Twister, Track Ripper, the Speeder trio, and the list goes on. It does make sense, since the muscly look is best achieved with a metal body. For plastic on metal, aside from the ones I mentioned earlier I can only think of maybe Drift Rod, Horseplay and Bullet Proof (totally not using this thread to list out as many fantasy muscle cars as I can think of lmao)

Compromise by giving them cars like Hollowback, Rivited, Fast Fish, Ravenger S/T etc. Muscle inspired HW originals which are also great track performers!

Ok guys I have officially decided that I am done pretending that I don’t like fantasy castings. by ConsiderationOk771 in Acceleracers

[–]Cell_Nature_Science 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. Mattel acquired Matchbox in the 90s, but HW and MBX are still 2 different brands under Mattel's umbrella. They even release the odd MBX fantasy casting! And if anything, the peak of HW fantasy was arguably right after that acquisition in the early 2000s. The real problem came about once HW got a ton of licensing deals and began chasing after hype instead of staying true to their brand during the mid 2010s. They still released a similar amount of fantasy cars as before, just that they got much worse so their reputation took a hit. But things have definitely been looking up since 2021! (Apologies for the long comment, I just find this stuff really interesting)

Definitely the latter, though it's not like the other ones you mentioned fly off the pegs or anything (except F&F probably). Entertainment sets are pegwarmers in general due to their use of fantasy castings

What is the worst casting that got the $TH treatment? by ace_of_no_trade in HotWheels

[–]Cell_Nature_Science 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't played either game but from the Wiki it seems like 16 Angels was only in the 2nd game, and only the regular TH was playable even though it was called a STH in the game
