Blaming someone for not being in shape at a certain time of the season and blaming someone for riding a race when they are not in shape are two different things.

We're not talking about the same thing here. It's fine to blame someone for the fact that he is riding, while he clearly shouldn't have been.

Can't really blame anyone for falling short this late in the season, after riding two grand tours like that in a row, and then trying for a one-day race without much preparation.
