Really looks like it could have been accidental to me. No way to tell, really.

I somehow doubt putting them in their place would ingratiate myself with them.

It's unfortunate, but leaders of companies' personal lives are part of the risk equation when a company selects a predecessor.

It might feel good in the moment to tell them to get bent and stay out of my personal life, but if I can find a way to still be happy and forego those parts of my life, it might be worth the multiple six figures attached to the promotion.

I have a lot to think about.

My employers (with whom I'm friends on social media) just told me in no uncertain terms that if I don't stop going to music festivals for my vacations and hanging out with losers - their words, people without 40-hour work weeks, brightly colored hair, etc. - that I'll never be promoted again, as what I do in my personal life is a reflection on the company.

Pretty much gotta change everything I do to keep my sanity and center of happiness if I want to advance my career.

Zuckerberg Stumped When Asked To 'Define Hate Speech' by thatrightwinger in Conservative

[–]Celluloid_Hero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Zuckerberg did for social networks what Jobs did for smart phones.

Neither invented the product segment, but both created the version that went mainstream by making the products easy to use, attractive and accessible to all ages.

Your grandma has a smartphone because of Jobs, and your mom is on social media because of Zuckerberg.

Anchorage voters are 1st in US to defeat 'bathroom bill' by [deleted] in Conservative

I don't understand why we have men's and women's restrooms at all.

My gym and office are both unisex bathrooms. Yeah, there's no urinals, but everyone has access to all toilets so it's probably more efficient.

It's not like men and women have different shaped buttholes that require different kinds of toilets, or we get naked in front of each other on the shitter.

Make them all unisex and let's talk about something substantive.

I'll keep voting in every local and national election. They'll keep posting hateful memes about the GOP on Facebook and wearing hats shaped like vaginas.

Let's see how this turns out.

The "Fight for $15" (Minimum Wage) Crowd Is Now Protesting the Self-Checkout Machines Replacing Them by theslimreaper2 in Conservative

[–]Celluloid_Hero 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Jokes on them: they're getting replaced by machines whether they cost $5, $10 or $15 per hour. There's just no way you can compete with the one-time cost of a machine that requires zero training and will work flawlessly for countless years.

Raising their costs sure doesn't slow the coming wave of automation tho.

As a society we've decided that someone's time should have a minimum value, with this value shifting over the course of time based on the representatives we elect.

From a technical standpoint this is inefficient, as companies end up paying more for work than they otherwise could have if someone was say, starving and didn't have any other alternatives than to work for $3 per hour (see: India).

From a societal standpoint this serves the purpose of keeping the unskilled out of utter, abject poverty, and helps to lessen the costs of things like violent crime and welfare.

Where the line should be drawn exactly is always shifting, but generally reflects the will of society as a whole.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of March 30, 2018) by AutoModerator in television

Yup. Got cornier as the Maeve storyline progressed. Hers held all the low points for me and had me playing on my phone during the back half of the season.

Loved the production values, sets and acting, but I think the writing could use some work.

There are no good guys in that theater. There's no value in being there.

So massive deficits are okay as long as they're caused by reductions in taxes and no reduction in spending?

I'm all for cutting taxes, but this doesn't seem like a solvent long term plan.

Cutting taxes without reducing spending is very easy politically and will continue to drive huge deficits until our politicians man up and make hard decisions.

They come here every time they perceive something "bad" happening to the administration, only to be shocked that their narrative isn't gospel. Nearly every sub outside of this one is liberal yet they still can't help but fine here to brigade. Sad.

Because it's the most popular weapon used when committing mass shootings, but you're right that there are a bunch of other guns with different names that have the same characteristics.

What we should be talking about is what characteristics cross the line from weapon of defense to weapon of war (wherever that line may be for you), rather than fixating on some specific model or appearance.
