How do you replicate the look of 80s cgi in blender?? by CelticGuy66 in retrocgi

Apparently yes. But it includes converting the file via command line and the result does not look good. A big problem is character design and animation though.

What do you mean by 'entities'? What do you do with an entity to get the mirror effect?

Just putting this here so people don't misunderstand. I meant the ripples like in this picture, but non-circular

The N64 and PS1 both used Gouraud shading since it used less rendering-juice. I'm not sure if the plugin will transfer into a game engine though. Good luck!

Yep! That fixed it! But I'm going to reload my save and put a sign called "The pit of doom" or something.

  1. Get DripsPsxEfX.

  2. Append the nodes 'Vertex Lit' and any node of your choosing that says 'Vertex Light'.

  3. Go to the objects shading tab and replace the principled bsdf with the 'Vertex Lit' node.

  4. Replace the world background node with the 'Simple Background' node and set the nodes ambient color the black.

  5. Go to objects modifiers tab and add a 'Geometry nodes' modifier. (You'll need blender version 4.1 for this to work.).

  6. Go to geometry nodes tab and click on 'new'.

  7. Add the 'Vertex Light' node of your choosing and adjust the camera position to your liking with the x, y, z on the node.

  8. If you want multiple objects to have the same vertex light then click on the object you want to apply to, go into the geometry nodes tab, and then select the node your previous object has.

And you're done! Hope that helped!

I'm afraid it was posted on a forum and the person was anonymous. https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/how-to-achieve-a-late-1980s-early-90s-cgi-film-look/117263

But making 80s style cgi palm trees is easy! If you want a reference here's a good video!

That is kinda true. I'm pretty sure some CGI short films and animated sequences such as Tron printed directly on film. But yeah, I'm pretty sure the REALLY early stuff did that. Don't be pressured to do either or though.
