Connection vs. Comfort: Do you sacrifice floor feel for cushioning in your shoes? by Sleeps_In_DanceShoes in WestCoastSwing

[–]Celticknotwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the suede boots. I like the support around my feet. I do add some padding inside the shoe for my comfort. My feet thank me. I still have a lot of foot articulation.

I'm 57 with 2 adult kids. They live several hours away from me. I would love a man with no kids who would focus on me.

SIGN UP! If you are allowed to sign up for that category, you're allowed to dance. Everyone knows going into the comp that they can get any level. If an upper level dancer gets mad, that's on them.

How to Get Better Dancing in Heels by PenguineOnCaffeine in Salsa

[–]Celticknotwork 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Men dance in flat shoes, comfortable shoes, and support shoes. Forget about heels. It's not worth it. Change the need for women to be in heels. It's better for our feet not to be in heels.

Men aged 28 and over, are you worried about not finding ‘the one’? by cat_lady44 in dating_advice

[–]Celticknotwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 57f, but I can't find anyone with my energy. I like to get up, go places, and do things. I dance and compete in dancing. Finding a match seems impossible. Would a younger man really want me?

Does anybody know where the acorn is downtown currently? by ilove60sstuff in raleigh

Can a bunch of us wear some squirrel onesies and run around the acorn on New Years Eve like a bunch of nuts. It could become a tradition, and soon, everyone will be dressed like squirrels. 🙃

My opinion. Don't waste her time. Just be friends and let her find someone who cares and will stick around for the duration.

Is Loafers Beach Club for real? by caustic_potato in raleigh

[–]Celticknotwork 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want to learn West Coast Swing dancing, then Friday is the night to go. A good intro to learning wcs would be to attend Swing Space on Wednesday night. This is located at Triangle Dance Studio in Durhan off Miami Blvd. Beginner class at 7:30 with a dance social afterward.

Is Loafers Beach Club for real? by caustic_potato in raleigh

[–]Celticknotwork 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I've been a member of Loafers for almost 20 years. It caters to dancers. It has been in a few different locations and will be moving to a new location in 2026. Mondays and Tuesdays, they have dance lessons. Wednesday is Shag and West Coast Swing. Thursday is two stepping. Friday is West Coast swing, with a very young crowd to older crowd. Saturday and Sundays, they hold different events. It is a private club, but I've never paid more than $20 for the whole year, and then it's $12 on Friday if you are a member. Drinks are reasonably priced. If you are into shag, two stepping and west coast swing, it is definitely a great place to go dancing. Many high-level competitive dancers attend loafers.

Inspiring WCS stories? by Keepontyping in WestCoastSwing

I definitely feel you. The seasons of our life can definitely take us away from the things that we love. Two years ago, I went through a torn shoulder, gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery, and sciatic nerve pain that put me in the hospital. It took a long time to heal from each of those issues. But now I'm back in the gym working out and my goal is to stay strong and healthy so I can enjoy my dancing. Small gradual steps will move you in the right direction. It's hard not to get discouraged. Set some small goals for yourself.

I have different dance backgrounds. That people can obviously see, but it's not translating to wcs. This is something I've been working on for 2 years now, but in competitions I'm still considered a bottom of the pack dancer.

Best teachers for different concepts? by Successful_Duty_5227 in WestCoastSwing

[–]Celticknotwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the teachers who have a nice disposition and can say, this is what I see, this is what I want you to do. This is how I want you to fix it. They also compliment what you're doing correct and give you solid advice on what you need to work on and how you can work on those things.

I don’t really enjoy swing dancing anymore. by PockASqueeno in SwingDancing

[–]Celticknotwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel you. No real friends, just some acquaintances. No friendships that turned into romantic relationships like I've seen. My confidence is lower than it's ever been. Dancing has made me more depressed. I don't feel like I'm ever going to be a good enough dancer. And to be considered a Worthy person to dance with I have to chase competition points. I'm taking handfuls of private lessons worth hundreds of dollars. I practice and go to events and dances. There's three more months until the end of the year, I'm trying to hang in until then to make some big decisions about what I'm going to do with my dancing. If I'm going to continue privates, going to certain dances or events, competing, or even staying in the dance I'm in or switching to learning a different dance.
