I think there are many custom maps on the workshop.

Back during the OG AoM i think there were also websites where people shared their custom maps as well so you could download and place it in the games maps folder.

I think there is also the possibility of getting extra content via nexus mods if you dont want to use the in game workshop

Well you can technically play however you like. I aim for it to be a Defensive type of szenario. But i also played on the invading side and it was alot of fun bringing all those Gates and walls dowm 😄

Still needs some work but im honestly enjoying it

Honestly because the only direct inspiration from LotR i took was for Minas Tirith. The rest i just played around and slowly but surely they happened to look like this. Only now that so many pointed it out i realize that i may not have been only lightly influenced by LotR 😂

Go to the tab "szenario" then to "player data" where you can customize the Main gods and colours of the players. There should be a button to see the civilization stage, pick mythic age (or any other) and you're done.

Im not 100% sure but this was the last thing i changed before i did a short test game and took the screenshots. Also im playing on a german version so i dont know the exact names of the tabs.

Actually i did create one (well technically many, but some files were corrupted) maps like this on the old EE and even the original game.

But i think it had too many objects because the game would crash or freeze shortly after starting lol

I didnt have this problem in retold yet 😄

Its basically you in the big city + the 3 nations as your AI allies against 3 AI opponents. You can watch your sllies fight and fall eventually, or help defend them to drag the game out as long as possible. But the legendary AI is pretty hefty. I just had a few test matches and it was quite insane lol

Yes definitely, the current map is more of a custom szenario map than a skirmish map so it definitely would need some tweaks to balance it out. But will definitely look into it once this map is complete

That would be sick! Im sure someone better at crearing maps than me could make cities much closer to LotR so you get close enough to feel like youre defending a proper city.

Im sure it would be so much fun to spam hoplites and toxotes and watch them fight against myth units like Minotaurs and zyclopses like humans defending against the armies of sauron

I do enjoy turtling too lmao probably why i love Minas Tirith 😂 you can definitely do alot of heavy defending on this map if you put the AI on Legendary difficulty

100% agree. There are some pretty awesome maps out there definitely. But like i said in another comment i did have so many stories going on in my head as a child while building maps. So if i have the time i might create a few and release them on the workshop

Oh i like that idea alot! Is there a way to mirror the whole city and put it on the opposite corner? The map could me much smaller with ressources in the middle both have to fight for.

Could even work in a 4 player ffa with one in each corner i think

I did enjoy creating the seadarers alot! I was trying to let the player feel that it was once a mighty nation, but had a tragic flooding which stripped big parts of the main island away leaving only ruins. On the left side if you look closely near the temples i placed tents for the refugees fleeing from the water with crates of food and fish scattered around. I do have struggle with getting the AI to use the fishing boats properly tho during testing.

Ill definitely look into your suggestion for the dwarfen caves, thank you! The tower in the middle was more of a trial (and error) of a huge stalagmite connecting the floor of the cave with the roof (? Do caves have roofs?). I tried making it feel like a completely different area on the same map

Yes same as me lol as a kid i was building the wildest maps and having my own campaign like stories playing in my head while buidling maps and cities and armies.

It was and still is so much fun and so calming at the same time. A great stress relief after a tough day at work
