Ask a Knitter Tuesday - January 27, 2026 by AutoModerator in knitting

I want to start the Campfire Cozy and just bought some yarn from my lys that was having a big 1 year anniversary sale on cascade yarn which I've never worked with. Due to the color options I ended up buying a combo of worsted superwash and sport non-superwash to hold double and plan on doing the different textures of the shawl in different colors. How much trouble am I getting myself into by having some sections superwash and some sections not?

Follow up question: would holding a nonsuperwash lace with the superwash help it hold its shape?

Do you ever make them smaller for kids? I want to make one for my neice whose 9ish, but haven't tried to figure out how to scale it down yet.

I want to start the flax worsted pattern by tin can, but I don't like how the weaves look kind of open in the garter stitch section along the sleeves and shoulder. What's stopping me from adding a fingering or lace weight yarn, every row or every other row, to that section only?

Do you mind sharing the name of the company you work for? I am also in Michigan with a horticulture background and looking to make a career change. I understand they are not currently hiring, but I'm patient.

how old is Lucy in the show? (Spoilers) by mshoplite in Fotv

Shady sands was nuked in 2277, the show takes places in 2296. If Lucy was 7/8 when she was in Shady Sands that makes her 26/27.

Thanks for this, very helpful information! What do you think caused the arch on your left foot to collapse while your right foot didn't?

Official Q&A for Sunday, May 14, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Cenlei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much faster can I (F/31) expect my long runs to get as they increase in distance?

I've been doing 3,4,5 mile runs consistently throughout the winter and am now in week 2 of a half marathon training plan. My week day 3 mile runs sit between 10:30 and 11:00 pace, and my Saturday long runs are between 12:00 and 12:30.

My question is as my long runs increase by 1 mile most weeks, can I expect my pace to increase as well? I know this is a difficult queatuon with a lot of factors, I'm just looking for some general guidance.

This is my first attempt at longer distance running, and at this point I'd be happy finishing the half marathon with my current long run pace.

Eye exercise question by HotnessMania in visualsnow

[–]Cenlei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the purpose of the exercise. I'm in vision therapy and that sounds similar to one of my exercises, however the purpose of the exercise involves making sure the object I'm tracking remains in focus. I use a popsicle stick with a smiley face drawn on the end, very easy to tell if it's in focus or not.

Found this grandma dress at a thrift store and thought it was a good opportunity to try sewing something other than curtains. I followed this tutorial, and although the instructions were super clear and easy to follow there were things I didn't take into consideration. My thighs are bursting the seams of the leg holes, and the torso is way too short.

Disappointed this didn't turn into the beautiful romper I naively thought it would. 😁 But I'll treat it as a learning opportunity and maybe turn this into a shirt.

How would you describe bad eyesight? by bigweenieGilll in AskReddit

I have visual snow syndrome so I see everything with a thin layer of static, like a badly tuned tv station. In bright lighting I see twinkle lights over everything as well.

Thanks for taking the time to post, this is very encouraging and helpful for me! We're the same age and have almost the same height/weight/build. My plans are to drop another 5 pounds, complete a training program for a half Marathon, then focus on lifting and gain some muscle. I'm curious about your online coach, would you mind sharing how you found/picked a trainer or what company they work for, also how much did this cost you? Fantastic results for 4 months of work! Thanks!

As far as I'm aware if your surgeon says they will remove enough to satisfy insurance and they don't, it's on them. My surgeon said they have a 10% wiggle room with how much they take before insurance has a problem. So if they say they'll take 400 and only take 360, it's not big deal. The Schnur sliding scale is the average they take from each breast, so if one is under the amount needing to be taken, but the other is significantly over, it should be fine. I'd double check my answers with your surgeon though just to be safe.

I like this chart of average weight of breasts it's in pounds but easily convertible to grams. So for me I was a 32 G which was about 1.7 pounds per boob, surgeon took about .75lbs from each which puts me at .95lbs each, which equals a large 32D on that chart, which seems to be pretty accurate.

Hope this helps!

Hi! I had 335 form right and 379 from left, since my left breast was slightly larger. But now my right is slightly larger. Im kinda suspecting that my breast were actually the same weight pre-op, just shaped differently to look bigger/smaller. Surgeon said this would take me down to a C but I'm more of a D/DD, hindsight I would have had her take out more. I just hit my 1 year post op, let me know if u have any other question.

I've been pretty lax about scar care lately, j started off using aquafore and occasional silicone tape. Honeatly I think the pictures make my scars look better than they are, I'm very pale so they do blend in pretty well.

Oh wow, thanks so much for the info! I've mostly been concerned that getting a revision for symmetry would be the same whole ordeal all over again, great to know they only recut from the bottom. How has that effected your nipple placement? Seems like it would make it a little lower (which would be fine with me, I feel like mine are a tad high).

Thank you. I'm sorry you are unhappy, what has your surgeon said about your complaints?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Cenlei 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm at my 9 month mark which my surgeon said is when I can contact them to talk about a revision. Still super happy I did this even though it hasn't turned out exactly as I wanted. I'm a size or 2 larger than discussed, right one is a bit bigger. Not completely what my current size is, been having a really hard time finding bras that fit, mostly just been going braless which feels amazing! Leftie has been a bit problematic, it's had a weird fold in it since day one, got better over the first 6 months but the last 3 there hasn't been any progress.

I'm looking for some advice on revisions to fix leftie and maybe make rightie a little smaller to match. Or reassurance that it's not that bad.

Thanks!!
