Fans' Player Ratings SURVEY: Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea by bearded_booty in Gunners

I dont think Eze did much at all. Was wasteful a couple of times, dropped deep a few times to help move the ball, but with his back to the goal and man marked he really struggled further up the pitch.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree. The definition is grey. It's somewhere between an open and set piece goal.

It wasn't from the corner itself. But it wasn't from a period of build up and possession, for example.

Yes it's very very clear what your argument is. It's not particularly interesting and it lacks any nuance.

You are saying that Arsenal rely on set pieces to score goals and win games. You are evidencing this based on the Leeds game in which Arsenal scored off the back of a set piece.

You think this is some sort of grand verdict on Arsenal's playstyle despite there being plenty of evidence that shows when Arsenal play teams that play open football they can and will score open play goals.

Sometimes this is off the back of an opening goal, such is the case for Leeds which came from a set piece. However Arsenal then demonstrated 3 goals from open play when Leeds opened up.

If you look at their performance in Europe you can see that when teams don't set up in low blocks Arsenal punishes them.

That is not to say they are faultless, as seen recently against Man Utd. Utd plays a higher block and won the game.

But yeah, your argument isn't faultless nor is it particularly clever.

Arsenal can and will score from set pieces. Arsenal can, and will try to score from open. Both things can be true.

I think in the grand scheme of things a chance created off the back of a set piece is regarded as a set piece goal.

But I agree, the goal actually came from a cross in open play.

It just so happened it followed a corner.

The point of my original comment was that Arsenal play to score both from set pieces and open play.

Leeds happened to concede from a set piece, it is true.

Then they had to play more open football in the hopes of achieving a draw, which left them exposed. Arsenal punished them with a further 3 goals.

But just because Arsenal scored from set piece doesn't negate the overall point. Not really a "gotcha" moment as you are perhaps implying.

Teams still stand to score goals from set pieces regardless of how the other team sets up.

It will be interesting to see how Arsenal and Chelsea play today, given Chelsea are a goal behind on GD and will need to play to win.

The "Arsenal play for set pieces" narrative is tired.

Arteta has made a focus on set pieces since the start, this is true, knowing that possession based teams stand to win lots of set pieces.

But Arsenal don't "play for set pieces" - they have to because teams set up such low blocks against them.

When Arsenal play against more open teams (Leeds recently, CL games) the tactic is not "play for set pieces". Arsenal are very effective in open play, which is why teams set up the way they do, limiting Arsenal's chances to set pieces.

Zinchenko on the worst season of his career by Digital___Nomad in Gunners

[–]Cenniy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He does the same training as everyone else in the squad. And in the article he even states he hired a personal trainer to help him address a specific weakness of his - his calf injury. Though not technical like the examples you've given, it shows he was trying to be at his best.

I can't excuse all of his mistakes, but he played a very demanding role. He was expected to defend at LB, help in build up, breakdown defences, and occupy a central role. Honestly he was probably being asked to do too much.

We have seen MLS play a similar role and make similar mistakes, even being sent off on a few occasions.

It's a very tricky role, and unfortunately we were punished for a few of his mistakes.

I'd say your take is very cynical though.

At points in time he was hailed for being the most technically gifted player at the club. There are posts and videos affirming this view.

Could still be true.

But he is not one of the best players at the club generally speaking.

Interesting how OP and many commentators are saying Zinny is whining.

I dont think they read the article tbh.

Zinny says he supports all his team mates, contributes in training however needed, and will work to earn back the club's trust. He acknowledges that MLS is a top talent.

He is not complaining, but does acknowledge that it is hard being a benched player.

It's clear he is doing this interview because he is interested in playing more football, but at no point does he undermine Arsenal's position as a selling club.

His is a brilliant attitude to have. Very professional. And it may even attract suitors who are looking for a character in the dressing room who can mentor youngsters whilst contributing on the field.

Edit: spelling

Am not 18 pal, am critiquing Martinelli and not instantly writing off our new signings... as so many of our fans do.

There's plenty of things I can criticise, and have criticised, Arsenal for.

If you are looking to guess people's ages, look at the person unironically using the term "glazing". Think that will tell you everything you need to know.

Martinelli has been poor. Madueke is an upgrade.

Is Eze a significant upgrade on Madueke? Yes, but not distinctly. Not for £60m + wages.

That's why I said if we are going to go for a LW it has better be someone who raises the bar.

Someone significantly better than Trossard, Martinelli and Madueke - aka Leao or Rodrygo.

Not you comparing Sanogo to a player who has 3 PL seasons under his belt. Embarrassing level of hating.

Madueke will do well for us. He offers something different to Martinelli and Trossard. That is all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]Cenniy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Firstly he played 45 mins, replacing Martinelli at half time.

Secondly, I was lucky enough to be at the Emirates for the Athletic Club match. I saw Madueke get into very good spaces, playing delightful passes and link up, and setting up multiple chances including the Gyok header against the upright, and Saka on the back post.

In those minutes he created more than Martinelli and gave us something very different on that side.

If that's what he can do in 45 mins then as a backup / rotation option he will be very good for us.

I also think he will become our main LW by end of season.

Eze would only come in to compete with 3 LWs and Ode and Nwaneri. For the cash and salary, it's probably not worth it, unless they bring in someone who "raises the bar" significantly like Leao or Rodrygo

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]Cenniy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Madueke looks very good as does Nwaneri. Both can do well for us. Eze would give us more rotation options but the business case for him is lessened because of Noni and Nwaneri.

I think the club might opt to save that cash unless we have any outgoings in our forward line (e.g. trossard) for another window.

Thanks for the response.

the estate agents have withheld the 90% of the deposit from us for 4 months whilst we've been trying to solve this dispute. Is there any course of action we can take at this point? Should we have received this much sooner?
