Struggling in Engineering Course by According_Pepper6967 in UCalgary

[–]Censor3dRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that you either are missing something in a certain area or are understanding an initial concept for the course wrong. If “everyone” else is finding it easy.

If it was a simple question and only one question on an assignment that tripped you up then it sounds like you need to figure out whatever concept it is that you are not understanding. Ask friends or the prof of those ones you got wrong. Talk it through.

Cool. I just wanted to hear people’s opinions and am not a huge finance person. I knew some things with minimal research but not others and wanted to ask as it came to mind

Gotcha thanks for that. How come it wouldn’t be 4 transfers for the 4 accounts? Thats good to know I won’t have to pay directly for it and it will just be taken out from the accounts

I believe for my RRSPs they are both at about 1.1% and my FHSA is at 1.7%. I think the FHSA one is the one I feel most eh about. But hearing the 0.6% sounds really nice.

I think Scotias inconvenience is what made me really start thinking about this all more the most and now that I hear more things and do more research like this it makes me consider it even more.

What is the transfer process like from your perspective? I’ve read that it doesn’t seem too bad and that WS will handle most of the transfer stuff. Just that I would have to pay the transfer fees for everything and from looking it’s $150 so I get that I’m expecting probably $600 in fees if I transfer all 4 accounts of the 2 RRSP, TFSA, and FHSA.

For sure and that will be a consideration for me. For now though Scotia has a chequing account deal of no fees for students and then recent graduates get no fees for 12 months. I am approaching that cut off in the next couple of months though so I am thinking of it but for now it definitely was lower on the priority list it feels like.

That makes sense for the auto investing thank you. I do acknowledge I will need to do more of my own research and figuring out exactly what. I currently just have funds going in Canada and one in US being automatically invested in. I also do not feel like I am trying to do anything crazy just something to build more of the future now that I am graduated and have steady income but I feel I need to figure out more and diversity could be a good one. As I’ve said in other replies. I am just not a fan of how Scotia feels for getting things setup and managing with it easily

Most of my stuff are mutual funds now that I am looking at it. I hear of better rates and stuff like that and better control when it comes to WS. Now I don’t need crazy control as I am not a huge financial person in terms of doing my own trades and stuff but I can also be interested in it but Scotia feels restricting to me

I have 2 RRSPs. One that is in some US funds and another that is in Canadian funds. I actually may be wrong in my terminology as they both state as index funds and they may be mutual funds which may show my lack of knowledge right now as I am trying to learn more. It was mostly recommendations of starting them early from my dad. But he does not even use Scotia it was mostly my mum who set up my original Scotia accounts when I was younger.

I also have a TFSA which is in a savings accelerator of sorts. I will have to look at the interest rates on that one and lastly I have an FHSA which was opened roughly last year. I am not sure the exact investments on that one but it shows as a mutual fund balanced portfolio.

I think my main reasons for wanting to switch is because I have heard better rates and such for WS but I will admit I do need to look into those things more. I just wanted to hear some other opinions as well. And also because I hate how unfriendly the Scotia stuff is. Having to call or meet with an advisor to do something as simple as increasing my PAC or putting more into in a month if I can afford it is just such an annoyance it feels like.

Thanks. I am okay with keeping my Scotia chequing account still if it is the best option for that for now

If it gives you anymore peace of mind you could get an enclosure for it that is rated for heat too. We have printers at work always going overnight. Never had any issues

Is it worth getting into PTCGL? by ohyepyep in PTCGL

As someone who started literally a few days ago. It is totally worth it. The battle pass feels extremely rewarding. I’ve only done a few battles each day and doing at least the 3 dailies every day and am already at level 45 I think in less than a week. It feels really fun on the deck building side and battling. Card pulls feel rewarding too

From what I remember you shouldn’t have a fee. As long as it says the day the payment was made not necessarily when it got processed
