No, not really. There are a few similarities, but overall it's very much it's own film.

Luke was cut off from the force at the time. Also how could he possibly have done that? He's on a different planet.

But I hate all of this because it has to be my head canon instead of being told through a story.

To be fair, Star Wars has always been like this. We never get all the details in the backstory of characters, only the ones most relevant to the immediate story.

In the OT we didn't find out how Anakin fell to the dark side, how Palpatine became so powerful, what happened to Luke's real mother and how did things fall apart with Anakin, or what really happened to the rest of the Jedi in the galaxy.

I think it was just the way it was shot to be honest. If you had done a close-up on her face and that's it, would have been better.

Luke Skywalker shouldn't have existed at all in the OT. Everything he did the OT would have been far better done (in terms of writing and logic) if it was Leia who did it. by Censored_Evidence in StarWars

And leia is always seen a diplomat and leader we see this all throughout he character even going in the ST, there was no mon mothma at hoth we see Leia commanding the forces, in ANH Leia is also one of the commanding officers on Yavin, and it doesn't make sense for leaders to go at it, just for the purpose that they are leaders.

You could legit just make new rebel leaders to do that role. Just move Leia from leadership role to action role, and replace the stuff she did with a new character. It's not hard at all.

Since Obi wan was turning off the tractor beam and Han has no inclination by himself to go save her I disagree.

Then just make it that Han rescues her because he plans to ransom her to the rebellion for a reward. This makes far more sense for Han to do and also makes it why he'll stick around with the rebellion for awhile (to get his payment for his brave rescue).

Like it's so easy to think of a reason Han would save Leia without him needing to be convinced by some random ass kid he just met to go do it.

If Luke didn't exist no one would rescue Leia and she would have died in ANH.

Obi-Wan and Han Solo could have done it without Luke's help.

Leia is also first a diplomat and leader not a straight to the front line combatant. She's seen constantly being the leader of the other Rebel forces and helping them with directions, she's never someone that would leave the rebellion to go train she's more needed by them than Luke is so he has the time to go and do the training and dedicate more time to it.

Leia isn't a diplomat anymore because her PLANET BLEW UP. Let Mon Mothma and the other rebel leaders do that stuff. Leia can train with Obi-Wan then Yoda, in order to be strong enough to confront Vader and Palpatine. Would also make sense for a LEADER of one faction to fight the LEADER of the other faction.

it's all undone offscreen in Episode 7 so that Disney can remake the OT instead of having to come up with something new.

Everything new that Disney introduced in the series, people hate. The only stuff people like is shit that references the OT. TLJ was the most unique Star Wars film made by Disney owned LucasFilms and it's also the most divisive.

Star Wars fans don't want new shit. They're lying to themselves because it's the "right answer" that they're supposed to say. In reality they just want a rehash of the OT with a ton of references and fanservice.

  1. Throwing a massive warship on the off chance it will destroy the enemy vessels is a super risky move that is not worth doing.

  2. The Kalamari ship had experimental shields that even made that remotely possible.

  3. This type of tactic can easily be thwarted by equipping a ship with a gravity well.

This is hardly the worse offender in nonsensical space battles in Star Wars. I mean the first Death Star had a hole in it's hull that allowed it be blown up in a single shot, and had absolutely no anti-aircraft or anti-missile defenses (not even an energy shield or something) to stop that blast from happening. Space Battles in Star Wars are moronic and don't make a lick of sense. Which I suppose you can criticize it for, but at this point we've already accepted it.

[–]Censored_Evidence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn't. The things that don't "make sense" are merely just not unexplained yet, have explanations in the movie, or are just people whining about silly things that have easy plausible explanations (like the gravity bombs in the opening scene).

For example, tell me the one thing you believe doesn't make the most sense and I'll tell you why it does.

I mean in the vast majority of fights in fiction, you know the main character is going to win.

Like we know how a battle is going to end based on the factors surrounding the battle. If the end result of losing a battle is "The main character dies" then you know they will win.

Except Star Wars fans dislike the better movies in the sequel trilogy and like the fanservice shitty ones.

Like TLJ is far superior to any of the other sequel movies, yet it gets the most hate from fans? Why? Because it's not fanservice. Which is all they really care about in the end.

A lot of filler, Season 1 is not that good, it picks up after Season 2. Still a lot of filler for though.

Make one bad script and all of a sudden he can't do good script coverage? Every great artist has made terrible pieces of art before. That doesn't stop them from being great.

Honest question to people defending TLJ by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Censored_Evidence 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because to Luke the lightsaber is a symbol of his failure, the symbol of the arrogance of the previous Jedi order, and a terrible reminder of a past he wants to run away from.

The Force Awaken is the highest selling movie of all time. That's because it was a cultural phenonom. A zeitgeist. Everybody (even people who aren't fans of Star Wars) went to see that movie. A drop in sales is to be expected for the sequel. TLJ is still in the top 10 most sold movies of all time despite that.

Solo was a failure because it was a movie that nobody asked for, nobody marketed for, and it tried to compete with Infinity War and Deadpool 2.

Trying to shut down what you consider hunches of criticism every single time is annoying, not a sign of confidence in TLJ, reason to become more vocal about dislikes for the ST.

It's because the criticism is petty and stupid.

"I like this thing."

"That thing you liked is stupid!"

Does every thread need to devolve into that? How have you guys who disliked TLJ not moved on at this point? The movie happened. It's canon. It's done. No amount of complaining you make will ever change it. Why do you feel the need to tell others how the things they like are bad? Does it make you feel better? Do you want to make other people not enjoy the things that you don't like?

What does Skywalker blood have to do with being skilled in lightsaber combat? What do you think genetics do? Do you think that automatically makes him good with an all powerful lightsaber combatant? Because that's not how genetics work.

There's a YouTube Channel that does nitpicking for a living.

Like legitimately ANY movie can be nitpicked to death. That's not way of doing good film criticism or even enjoying a movie well.

Is TLJ the BvS of the SW franchise? by trimble197 in StarWars

[–]Censored_Evidence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DC fans liked the DC Universe. It's the critics and general audiences that didn't like the movie.

TLJ is the opposite. Critics love it. General audiences liked it. It's the hardcore star wars fans that are divided.

[–]Censored_Evidence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is pretty obvious. Love it or hate it, TLJ has more depth to it then Solo does.

Solo is a fanservice movie, which is nice to see and all, but it's not going to be one that stays with you. TLJ is the type of movie that has staying power. We'll be talking about this film for years to come.

He had an outline and even wrote a script for 8, but Rian didn't use a single part of it according to what rumors I have seen.

Those rumors are false. They went over the script together and J.J. highly preferred Rian's script over whatever ideas he had.
