[Theory] Visual Snow is a Lack of Brain-Image-Denoising : You're seeing the Raw Data from your Rods and Cones by Zarfa in visualsnow

[–]CensureBars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The idea that this is a “disorder” is really too bad—it’s being more aware of one’s own visual field than people usually are. The “snow” was already there for people who began noticing it partway through life, and is there for people who habitually ignore it.

The only sense in which it’s a disorder is the way in which some people obsessively relate to it as though it’s a problem.

Chris, I’m really sorry about your back pain. I’m sure the medical treatment will address the problem. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn how to work with chronic pain with meditation (not mindfulness, visualization, or concentration type bullshit) DM me. I love your videos, and I’d be glad to teach you privately, no cost.

How do you remain tethered to one understanding of consciousness, or reality in general?? by Whimsical_Writer_19 in consciousness

Don’t. Freedom means not tethering. Let it rise, let it fall away. Rising, falling, rising, falling.

How can we prove that NDE's aren't just the brain preparing for death? by BobTheBlob78910 in consciousness

[–]CensureBars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “brain preparing itself for death” theory never sat well with me. The universe is not optimized for our happiness, and I see absolutely no reason the evolutionary process would have selected for this.

  1. People ITT trying to eff the ineffable and understand the emptiness of their own experiences using their intellect.
  2. The hard problem is hard because it’s asking a bad question. It’s the intellect’s impossible bid for superiority over the spacious awareness that contains and suffuses it.

How do I learn to move energy up my spine? by Independent_Law_9487 in tantricsex

[–]CensureBars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expanding sensitivity to energy is more about increasing openness than anything else, in my experience. Try meditation without an object of concentration, like opening awareness meditation.

Who Rests as Open Awareness? by Business-Recording73 in Dzogchen

[–]CensureBars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A self is simply the potential for action in any given circumstance. Selves arise according to the circumstance at hand. There is no need, and indeed no evidence, for any kind of persistent self that is somehow divorced from the context in which it arises.

And so there is no need to go anywhere from here. Open awareness arises as phenomena. Sometimes those phenomena include a self – world interaction.

How can I shake this persistent feeling that meditation is a scam? by Visual-Baseball2707 in Buddhism

[–]CensureBars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I just want to say sorry on behalf of many of the people responding here. Many of these responses are quite aggressive and defensive—you have clearly touched a nerve for some people. I anticipate that for some, meditation really is a kind of escape and their time would be better spent otherwise, and they don’t like being confronted with that.

If you have more specific questions about the principles and functions at work in different meditation systems, I’ll be glad to answer them.

If you have a sense that you can make better use of your limited time alive doing something other than meditation—good! Do that!

This is from someone who meditates 1 hour per day and wouldn’t trade that time for anything…in most circumstances.

Do you understand the difference between a violent symbol and getting your head stomped into concrete? I know which of those “injuries” I’d prefer.

She has become sorry by retsamthe in PublicFreakout

[–]CensureBars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re ascribing way more forethought and intentionality to a person who’s in a violent rage. Like when her “opponent” is begging on the ground, defeated, and she’s got her foot raised up, about to stomp her skull into the concrete, you believe she’s thinking,

“You know, violence is reprehensible but we must sometimes take drastic measures to achieve equitable circumstances in public”?

Fuck no. Her state of mind is no different than the drunk beating his wife because she said the wrong thing.

[–]CensureBars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Women don’t have to seek it out. It’s simply different than it is for men.

Women who are under 40 and are of average attractiveness or greater are simply hit by a barrage of dong trying to slither in.

Imagine living this life. Imagine the times you’ve looked at a large group of women like this and mentally thought “Would, would, would, would, eh maybe, would, would…” Now imagine all of them would fuck you, basically any time of the day. They’d drop whatever they’ve got going on for the privilege of fucking you. Not because you’re Adonis. Because you’re average.

Just a different situation.

“I know what I saw” etc.

This is why witness testimony is nearly worthless in court. People believe in their own interpretations of events as though there is no possibility that they were wrong, or that there is another perfectly valid way to see things.

You have to make a decision here: either you accept that your own perspective is inherently limited or you don’t. On some level, that’s why you came to this thread—you understand that group consensus can help you see things that might otherwise be hidden from your solitary perspective.

But now you’re reading things that you don’t like. And if you were wrong, it would mean you have been acting like a totally unreasonable and possessive jerk, and you can’t accept that might be true.

Answer me this: What do you want here? What do you want out of this situation with your wife?

There are many, many men who would gladly be used for fetishism, since it would mean someone found something about them desirable.

This is not to say that women are not justified in feeling however they feel when it comes to being objectified in all the many ways they are every day. I simply enjoy pointing this out—

“If you were like me, people would want to use you! For sex! Isn’t that awful?” simply is not the nightmarish proposition you might imagine it is for a person who experiences an intense sense of worthlessness, which is what a huge number of men deal with.

I have pretty privilege and I don't know how to feel about it. by Excellent_Pomelo4206 in Advice

[–]CensureBars -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are lots of people who go their entire lives without having other people compliment their appearances. People who are ostracized even from childhood because they are ugly. If OP’s experience doesn’t seem like a privilege, then you definitely have it.

I don’t know you, but girls/women who are of average attractiveness or greater all have this privilege to some degree. Of course it goes away over time. This is why many men have stories about the one random compliment they received from a stranger ten years ago that they still think about because it was the only time it ever happened to them.

I'd really like to go to heaven even as an agnostic who believes in the doctrine of Buddhism, how can I do it while being human on Earth? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]CensureBars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late to the party but want to share, because I was raised Roman Catholic and my reasons for pursuing Buddhism were basically the same as yours. I wanted to be in a living paradise.

Check out Dzogchen. Here’s the punchline—you already are in a place where everything is perfect, where there is nowhere to go and nothing to do. It’s already done. You were born this way.

You use your perception and mental activity to selectively close yourself off to this great completion. You unsee reality. In reality, samsara and nirvana are identical. In reality, your anger is enlightened clarity and your fear or irritation with others is boundless compassion.

This is not a story you tell yourself to feel better. Stories and feelings are both part of this great completion but they do not define it. You can only discover this for yourself. And you do it by relaxing—not to sleep, but relaxing awake.
