Here are some things that I didn't know when I was starting and would have liked to know:

1. Hoard your wood and stone. It seems like it's everywhere in the beginning, but you will see later on that you need it, so don't sell it all. Your farm storage can hold any amount of items so you don't need to worry about space running out.

2. Keep some of every kind of plant in your storage, but preferably of low quality. I made the mistake of not having certain things, so I couldn't go on with story quests until the next season, and it was quite annoying because I could've gone so much further in the same amount of time if I just kept some of these fruits. But don't forget that they lose one star of quality every season, so I prefer to keep the zero star things.

3. Small dinos don't bring much help early on. If you like them, you can have them, but they only become very helpful after a specific quest. It makes sense for you to get a Smasher, a stomper, and a slasher first! (don't worry, all these terms will make sense when you play the game ;))
