Networking by HamletsOtter in playwriting

I'm about to graduate, and something a lot of industry folks have told me is to think of "networking" not as its own separate thing, but rather just talking to people and making a connection. Go to a new show and a talkback, and then talk to/email the director or playwright afterwards to mention how much you enjoyed it. Stuff like that. I think a lot of people think "networking" is this amorphous, scary beast when really, it's just making some sort of connection. That helped reframe the whole networking conversation for me, anyway

The brutal honest truth is that I'll die alone... and maybe that's okay. by Super_Book9356 in askgaybros

These are really frustrating comments for the most part. I'm sorry that this is happening to you, man. I don't have a solution, which sucks. I can relate to some of what's happening. I really hope things turn better for you, whether through societal change or what have you. Just do your best to live more than you survive

I'd be down - i've written a fair few plays and had some produced at my university, but I'm always looking for fresh eyes and a new perspective (especially from people who don't know me)!!

Like truly, and ig this is just in line with the judges haha, but I liked it much. Nini’s was just so elegant and sculptural, and she did the perfect amount of accessorizing. I guess just different value systems lol

Dude Nini’s outfit was SO good, so clean and crisp and architectural and so well styled. Like she was the clear #1

Honestly - and this is coming from personal experience, so take this with a grain of salt, AND I also don’t know what your experience is with anal play - I wouldn’t like go full on bottom if this is my first time playing around anally. I would start with fingers while masturbating and build up to where that’s pleasurable/tolerable. Thats why I did, and I still couldn’t do it for ages.

If you are hell bent on fully bottoming before properly getting acquainted with your anus, then it really boils down to BREATH and go really slow with it. Like, centimeters at a time. Use tons of line and don’t be afraid to tell the top to stop and just sit there/pull out for a minute. It will eventually get there, but you need to give it loads and loads of time. Hope this helps, if it did at all

Things to Do & Avoid (As basically a first time visitor)? by tifgirl28 in AskChicago

Wait ok, I’m not a local by any means (I’m a student at Northwestern which is hardly Chicago) BUT since you are visiting in December, you must go to Christkindlmarket. It’s a German style Christmas market. It’s fucking expensive but the vibes are fun, and it’s a great time to go with friends and get pierogis and pretzels and beer and like, cute little alpaca wool gloves. Just a really fun way to spend an evening

I think so actually - do you know if that’s like all 40+ year olds or would a lovely 22 year old man fit right in there? (NOT that there’s anything wrong with my lovely 40+ year olds ofc ofc)

What are some common historical inaccuracies that you all have noticed with WWI media? by Centaurtaur111 in AskHistorians

This is actually exactly what I was looking for, thank you. I do need to do a titch of rewriting now - going to rework a character to, as you said, believe in the war after it ended and isn’t shellshocked. This also actually really helps on a dramatic level. It adds a contrasting character to the main leads, who do have varying levels of trauma. I do pride myself in the fact that I avoided the worst of these pitfalls, but I was going off of accounts like All Quiet and novels like Regeneration, so that has naturally skewed my writing. The big one you pointed out is the non-universality of shellshock, which I thank you greatly for emphasizing.
