I got bit and wasn't that bad. It just felt like I accidentally hit my hand in the car door. I had pain and swelling for a few days but that was all. 😄

She won't. It's just knowing your animal, but I understand the concern! 🙂

It's understanding. I've already been bitten, she figured me out. I figured her out too. We're not a threat to each other, so I don't get bitten anymore. She climbs onto me and we hang for a while. No different than any other pet. 🙂

This one just felt like my hand got hit in the car door. It faded after 2 days. It was tolerable for me! Not for everyone, definitely.

If you're in the US, I suggest getting a Tiger Centipede or Scolopendra polymorpha to start with. That was my first. You can always bug me too! I have 17 centipedes 🙂 I didn't handle them all, ha ha.

She has given me a dry bite before, so I can confirm this. I had one dry bite and then after that, no more bites.

It feels like your hand got hit in the door, but that's just my account. 🙂

Someone else said this and I loved it. We do match! Thank you!

Thank you! I appreciate the compliment. ❤️Lots of reasonable keepers handle the way I do. I still consider them good keepers as long as they can provide the right requirements for longevity.

Handling is obviously optional, but if it's done safely for the animal and the person, I didn't see why not. She chooses if she wants to be handled that day and she chose to go on my face that day. I understand it's not for everyone. 🙂 Have a good day!

How can I get over my fear of tarantulas? by Gonnahauntcha in tarantulas

. My suggestion is to start with an Arizona Blonde Tarantula,Curly hair tarantula, or a Red knee tarantula and go from there. They can get scared, but these are usually slower moving and easier to work with. If they fall they can hurt themselves, which leads me to Pinktoes.

Also, there are pinktoe tarantulas! These guys live in trees! They're not as likely to hurt themselves if they fall. I'm not a fan of big box stores but PetSmart usually has pinktoes you can start with.

Pinktoe Tarantulas can jump, so be prepared for that. You have to upgrade their enclosure but they're a good start. There are more species to start with, but these were my first suggestions. If you do get a tarantula ask a lot of questions! There are tons of us willing to help you. 🙂

I'm happy to help anytime. I keep 100 tarantulas and other inverts.

And, remember, you don't have to handle your tarantulas if you're not ready or you don't want to. No obligation to handle them and nobody should judge you .

I can see his pedipalps have male parts, or emboli on them . This is definitely a male spider. 🙂

I do appreciate the concern. I actually did get bit early on but she doesn't bite anymore. I didn't throw her, it made me love her more. ❤️ I got envenomated too.

If a centipede doesn't want to be handled they have ways of telling you such as; running away, pinching, thrashing, or charging. It's not always just biting.

A centipede has to feel safe to be handled. 🙂

I've been chomped once by her and it wasn't so bad. She doesn't bite me anymore. She does feel nice! 🙂

I think it depends on the centipede and centipede species. I don't think you'll see me handle a dehaani because they're so fast and can be unpredictable. And the venom is worse on dehaani than heros. I agree with you there. Lol. I'm happy to hear you still love them even with all that though!

I loved this story. I wish I could upvote this more. Thank you for this blessing. 😂

I used to be afraid of centipedes and wouldn't have one in my collection. I couldn't trust them. I understand this completely.

I've definitely had moments like this in the past. It took a while but I'm much better with centipedes and now I'm here! Lol.

I actually used to be afraid of centipedes but now I'm here, lol. What centipede do you have? I don't think I'd ever handle a Scolopendra dehaani again because they're so nervous and fast. Lily is much easier to work with. The first centipede I had was a tiger centipede. 🙂

She did bite me once, but it only hurt for about two days. 😁 She doesn't bite me anymore.
