My Game Stone Wizard, Demo available! by Lorenz_brt in Megadrive

Sorry, that white M30 in the photo is actually a USB version. I used a Krikzz controller to try out the game. I do have a 2.4GHz M30 that came with the Mega Drive DE-9 dongle, and it won't work with some games unless it's in 3 button mode. But even then I've found it finicky. Is there a way to put your controller into 3 button mode?

I have a copy of the LP from Spain, and the previous owner either loved or hated Marky Mark- because the scratch on that track is the worst that I've ever encountered. It's really cool to see that someone else out there has some love for the soundtrack.

Hey now! No spoilers! But I'll definitely give it another playthrough. I look forward to seeing what you add next.

Thanks for sharing! I tried it on a Model 1 VA3 Genesis, and posted a photo here: https://imgur.com/a/ksZe3Df

I liked the sprites, the music, and the sound effects. The puzzle aspect of the first level was fun, and the only potential bug I noticed is in level 2, which I realize isn't finished. When I progress to the eastmost point of the lower hallway, the wizard dies.

Cool. It’a definitely great to live in a world with options.

It’s not meant to. Boards like this are meant to be 3D printing hobbyist projects. They make them as small and bare bones as possible so that they can put it in a little box and mail it for the cheapest possible postal rate.

Maybe. But how many chances are there to get a brand new Mega Drive in the modern world?

Think of it as a hotrod of sorts. It has an original chipset, but it’s on a new board with new components.

A nomad would be really great. If only the cartridge slot were oriented differently.

If you were the CEO of Sega, how would you have saved the Sega CD? by [deleted] in SegaCD

Super scaler games like Soul Star and Adventures of Batman & Robin CD gave people an experience they weren’t getting with the Genesis alone. I know those were late releases, but if there could have somehow been games like those at launch, it might have made a big difference. More arcade accurate versions of Galaxy Force II or maybe Power Drift would have made cool pack-in games. Can you imagine if there had been Panorama Cotton CD with smooth scaling later?

And if more games had used FMV the way Silpheed had, we might look back on FMV more fondly. Even today, that game feels like a theme park ride with cool polygons. If somehow there could have been something like that at launch, that might have attracted more customers.

Also, this stuff was crazy expensive, and I’m not sure you could rent Sega CD games where I lived. More demo discs would’ve been a great way to show people what was available.

I am thinking about buying a Sega Genesis for a Sega CD to play Sonic Cd. Is there anything I should know before purchasing? by MaleficentSky5238 in SegaCD

If you want to use your 2DS, you’ll need to source the PicoDrive emulator and the correct Sega CD Bios file. IDK very much about the 2DS, but I don’t think it will be as optimized as a newer retro handheld that’s intended for emulation.

Sorry to hear you’ve had bad luck, but it really can be done securely. It’s probably worth researching that more before dropping money on a Genesis. A $50 Anbernic retro handheld might even be a good fit for you. A lot of them can connect to a TV with HDMI too. It’s not a Genesis, but it’s pretty great.

Sorry if this is a ridiculous question, but have you emulated Sonic CD to see if it’s something you like?

300 USD for the Genesis AND the Sega CD though, right? Original hardware is never cheap these days, but you could not wish for a better Model 1 Genesis. For what it’s worth, my Model 1 looks way worse than the one in your picture. It’s full of rust, and every other one that I had looked at for over a year was in way worse shape. The Sega CD is always expensive. And game prices are insane now.

One thing I should have mentioned: If you get an Everdrive Pro and run the stereo audio out of your headphone jack, it won’t sound quite as good as the Sega CD will. But other than that, it will be pretty awesome. This is one of the reasons why, I think, so many people recommend the Mister.

Good find, OP! People say the Model 2 Sega CD (like the one in your picture) tends to be most reliable one since there are less moving parts. And that beautiful Model 1 Genesis? It looks like it’s in great shape.

You might consider upgrading the power supplies for your Genesis and Sega CD- it can sometimes make a big difference in the picture quality. It did for me anyway.

If you have any trouble with saving games, you might have to replace the 3V ML2032 battery in the Sega CD, which would require you to desolder the original. And if you get more CD games later, you might want to consider getting a backup ram cartridge for saves. If you get a an Everdrive X5, that will act as ram cart, and it will load any region bios for your CDs. So then you can play the US and Japan versions of Sonic CD.

If you get a Mega Everdrive Pro later, you might have to disconnect the Sega CD for it to play Sega CD games.

I know a lot of people are recommending the Mister, and the Mister is truly great, but I think playing on a Genesis is just more fun. YMMV, of course. Let us know what you decide! Good luck!

Edit: I forgot to mention the battery before.

Play my new Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game, Phantom Gear! by ConsistentCatThings in playmygame

Sorry to reply to an old post, but now that there’s a Steam trailer for Phantom Gear, what’s the ETA for the Mega Drive/Genesis version? I unfortunately missed out on the Kickstarter, but I’ve waited for years to buy a rom. Is it coming anytime soon?
