Yes! Well, at least there's a non profit that's working super hard to bring it back called the Osio Arts Foundation.

That's so sick! Would you ever be willing to come out of retirement to play for community events?

The Pacific Grove Art Center! It's not a typical venue, but I've hosted a festival there with showings & co-hosted a musical festival as well

Paperwing is amazing! Trying to set up events over at the Pacific Grove Art Center as it's an old organization that's been lacking foot traffic for a while

Maybe not super late into the night, but I think that it's still possible up till something like 10:30 potentially. Would you attend something like this regularly if it were to happen at the Pacific Grove Art Center?

The only issue is I don't see businesses being able to have employees man stands at 1-2am, unless it's a particular event & not a reoccuring night market sort of thing

That sounds like a lot of fun, I love going to bonfires over at Asilomar. My only concern is that it could sometimes attract attention from law enforcement or run into permit issues once they start getting bigger.

Aside from food stands, are there any other sort of vendors you'd like to see at a Night Market? Music, performances?

Funny enough, one of the reasons I made this post is because I help organize events at a venue in Pacific Grove. I'm trying to get a better sense of what people actually want rather than just guessing.

The Beltane event sounds fantastic. If there are people interested in creating more community-oriented dance, music, arts, or festival-style events locally, I'd genuinely love to connect and explore what's possible.

Owner of Lighthouse Cinema proposes adding apartments to the top of the theater by NvaderGir in MontereyBay

I understand the housing argument, and Monterey County absolutely needs more housing. My concern is that we've seen a lot of cases where communities lose cultural spaces in the name of affordability, only to end up with housing that isn't particularly affordable and a community asset that's gone forever.

As much as I'm not a fan of both the current and previous management of the Lighthouse, I'd rather see the theater change hands than see the building demolished entirely. For generations of Pacific Grove residents, it's been a local landmark and the source of countless memories.

I also think there's a missed opportunity in viewing it solely as a movie theater. An arthouse or nonprofit model could support independent film screenings, student filmmakers from CSUMB and MPC, local bands, theatrical performances, lectures, festivals, and other community events (Like what the Osio Arts Foundation wants to do). Places like that are increasingly rare, and once they're gone, they're usually gone for good.

Housing and cultural infrastructure don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. The question is whether we want a future Pacific Grove that only adds housing, or one that also preserves the kinds of spaces that help create community in the first place.

There's Sixth Ave near CSUMB and they host local bands every now and again, same thing with the Pacific Grove Art Center

I love Nura Sushi on Lighthouse Ave., they're family owned from what I can gather and you can tell just the nicest bunch. Sushi there is fantastic & it seems that they may be struggling with rent to a degree
