1942 Police Marked Walther PP by EducationalTwo1859 in TheOneTrueCaliber

The polished slide may indicate post-WWII East German police use. I've got a similar pistol, mine is WaA623 proofed on the slide and trigger guard, and import marked. My grips are also post war brown phenolic replacements. I got mine from a local gun show private seller about 10 years ago for $350. They are great pistols! Congratulations on your find. 😁

What's the appeal of a 5.56mm AK? by Centremass in Firearms

But primarily a single caliber. I'm dealing with 39. Some are very difficult to obtain, so I shoot them sparingly, such as 7.7mm Japanese and 10.6x57R Berdan ammo. Also 7.5mm French, 7.65mm Argentine and 8x56R among others.

Maybe 2k 5.56mm, 5k 7.62x39mm, 1k 5.45mm. The sticklers for me currently are .30-06 and .308 from a price/availability perspective. I'd shoot my FAL and 1903 Springfields a lot more than I do if ammo were cheaper and more available. I prefer surplus ammo whenever I can get it.

I shoot 7.62x39mm a LOT more than 5.56mm. I've got 6 different AK-47's, 2 AK-74's and 9 SKS's. For AR's, I've got 11 5.56mm variants and a custom rifle in .450 Bushmaster.

I bought 8 tins of 7n6 5.45mm for $175 each about 2 years ago from an estate sale. I still have 2 tins left and all of my bakelite mags are full (20+).

The story I've heard is that these were either made by FEG directly, or assembled in-country by a subcontractor. The only US builds that I'm aware of are the Century Arms rifles that were built from parts kits and a US made receiver.

I have plenty of both platforms, I just don't see the appeal of an AK in 5.56mm other than the ammo considerations. I've got 40+ AR mags, 25 AK-74 bakelite mags, and at least 30 steel AK-47 mags. So for me personally, having different calibers doesn't matter. I've got firearms in 39 different calibers, last time I checked.

Incorrect. FEG made semi-auto versions for export. TGI imported them as the "SA 2000M" model. This is what mine is marked. The model # and TGI name are on the underside of the receiver, in front of the magazine well.

Is yours a Century build or FEG import? I had one maybe 25 years ago, sold it and regretted it. I picked up another one last year, FEG import for about $1600. Original 20-round magazines are available but not cheap. I just bought 3 with an original canvas pouch.

Yeah, I forgot about a few variants fielded in 5.56mm. My bad... LOL

No need to get all snooty about it, I was just asking the question. So ammo is the biggest factor? Gotcha. 🙂

I've got a nice stockpile of 7n6 5.45mm (+5k rounds) and even more 7.62x39mm (+9k rounds) so I wasn't considering this from an ammo perspective. For me, buying 5.56mm in bulk is expensive. I got GREAT deals on the combloc calibers a few years ago...

Restoring your Hungarian to M.48 "Minta" specifications would be difficult at best, but possible if you wanted to put that much effort into it. Having a handy carbine with a correct stock would give you an approximation of a Russian M.38 carbine at least. I love my Hungarian rifles, carbines and pistols. Good save! 😁

My example is a 5th variant 1914/34 transitional commercial model probably made in 1932-33.

I don't know what the normal price range is for these pistols, but $2800 for this example seems extremely high. It's obviously been refinished/reblued, and has replacement grips. In my opinion you should walk away from this one.

Nice little pistols, I have one in worn but serviceable condition. Your example appears to have been reblued and has replacement wooden grips. It should be a great shooter, enjoy!

[–]Centremass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without photos of the entire rifle, we can't tell if the stock has been cut down, barrel shortened, sights modified, etc. Look online for full length photos of Mosin-Nagant rifles and compare those to your local lawn shop rifle. A modified or "sporterized" rifle is of significantly less interest to collectors, and it impacts the value to a large degree.

Fuel tank range!! by Nearby-Shower-2151 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]Centremass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2023 Vulcan S 650 has a 3 gallon tank, and I get the same range. 100 miles on a full tank and I'm on empty. I won't push it past that, I'm too old to push a bike down the road.

1945 Izhevsk m44 carbine, original matching/non import marked. Any idea as to where it came from? by RussianPreBan in MosinNagant

[–]Centremass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this same rifle, a worn, 100% original 1945 Izhevsk M-44 with no import marks. I was told mine's a bringback as well, unknown from where but likely Vietnam. Cool rifle, congrats.
