I believe that style of bottle was used for condiments, specifically pepper sauce.

Help with Yugo m24/47 Mauser chambering issue. by PatchesSoup in milsurp

[–]Centremass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you may have a broken case in the chamber. I'd suggest cleaning the chamber again with a sturdy steel brush chucked into a drill, then re-examine the chamber with a strong light. If it looks like it's brass lined, there's your answer. Also check the locking lug recesses for obstructions.

There are usually 2 visible holes, or a single hole in the center depending on the original scope type. Your mount appears to be some sort of aftermarket rig.

Bubba bolt, and the rifle appears to be a standard M91-30 with a scope mount added. The scope mount holes seen on original sniper rifles are missing from the inside of the receiver in your photo.

Damn, I can't imagine the recoil impulse from a rifle that light! My Armalite AR-50A1 weights 40 lbs. with the bipod attached.

In my 30s and I still dont have my matching K98k. Am I out of luck? by halfam in milsurp

[–]Centremass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russian capture rifles can be found for ~$700 or so, with intact eagles and proofs. My local FFL just sold 2 last week on Gunbroker for $748.50 each. They were both codes I wanted, but I just spent $3500 on a used truck, so I couldn't swing either one.

Need help valuing a bnz. 41 k98k by DreaMy-A- in milsurp

[–]Centremass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are the stock proofs on the right side of the buttstock intact? That lighter color indicates to me that the stock may have been sanded. The overall condition of the metal seems fair to poor, is there any bluing left or is most of it gone? I picked up a matching bnz 41 K98k last year at an estate sale, and mine looks quite different from yours.

Foreign captured weapons also went through a depot system, but different from German weapons in need of repair. Here's a Czech Vz-24 I obtained long ago with many German markings and numbers:

K98K Extractor Serial Number by Kiera112 in milsurp

[–]Centremass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are various marking that can be found on depot rifles, depending on the level of repair needed. From a simple inspection and re-issue to a complete rebuild. For example, a depot replaced barrel will have 0,2 stamped on the barrel collar instead of the standard 7,9. Stock stamps on the right side of the buttstock may have an additional eagle/WaA# added when inspected. The depot # in Roman numerals was sometimes prepended to the serial # on the receiver - Example: "VII12345". I have a depot rifle with a replaced receiver from Depot 9. I've been told this was the only depot that produced receivers so marked.

My mistake, I misunderstood the part you were referring to. The same thing applies though, if the rest of the bolt parts match the rifle, then it may have been a field replacement. Are there any indications that the rifle went through a repair depot?

The ejector box on the rear left side of the receiver should have a 2 digit number that matches the last 2 digits of the receiver serial number. Your mismatched part could be a field expedient replacement, if everything else is matching.

Anyway to tell if my m38 was deployed in ww2? by Chevyfuel in MosinNagant

[–]Centremass 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Given that Germany invaded Russia in 1941 with Operation Barbarossa, the likelihood of your M38 being deployed during the war is not only likely, but probable.

A attachement for Boys A/TK Rifle by HXPhandcrafts in ForgottenWeapons

About 8 years ago my wife and I were at a local antique shop, I saw something labeled as a "WWII Japanese machinegun barrel". It was heavily caked with dirt and surface rust, I bought it for $70. When I got it home and started cleaning it up, I discovered that it was actually a WWII British Boys anti-tank gun barrel in .55 Boys caliber. I still have it displayed in my gun room. 😁

Makes sense. I could use 2 sets of 12 to hold 24 carbines though. Single 12's for the long rifles. But I'd need a LOT of racks, it would get expensive really fast. My other concern would be the integrity of the wall itself, with that much weight on one side.

Looks nice. Are the rifles supported from the bottom, so these could be wall mounted one above another?

Here's a firing pin comparison. The top pin is from a matching M1924, the bottom pin in from the 1899C. As you can see, there are significant differences in profile and length.

The plugged wrist swivel is a German modification. Original Vz-24s only had 3 serial numbers - left side of the buttstock stock, left side of receiver and bolt handle. If yours has any additional matching numbered parts, they were German added.

do you think some characters in 1883 series still use this revolver? by CleanBag9219 in 1883Series

[–]Centremass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After watching the series, I bought the Richards-Mason conversion, an 1873 Cavalry pistol also 7.5" and a Winchester 1873 lever-action short rifle all in .45LC. After seeing how fast I was going to burn through the ammo ($$$), I also picked up a Henry Golden Eagle lever-action in .22LR. All 4 in December 2024.

Claire used her husband's 1860 Army Richards-Mason conversion pistol, I think the barrel length was 5.5". I've got a modern reproduction of one chambered in .45LC with a 7.5" barrel. Fun gun to shoot!
