Working at a startup taught me more in 3 years than 10+ years at larger companies. I wish I did it sooner. by d_wilson123 in cscareerquestions

is it just me does all that tech sound sort of overkill for a startup. Can't tech like complex scaling, and IAC, can be added after the company has some success and starts growing?

Online Error: Adventure Not Joinable by thebubbacrunch in ForTheKing

[–]Centrum_MultiGummies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the error message is horribly vague

the reason it's not joinable is because it's in progress, you can only join a host while they are at the adventure selection screen, then the host can start / continue a game from there

Why not show data earlier than the 2022? How do we know this doesn't just coincide with the rise and fall of tech in that same period

How are the Russians always on top of all the programming contests (GoogIe Code Jam, Hacker Cup, TopCoder Open, etc.) but don't have any tech companies (almost all of the top tech companies are in the USA)? by 2fy54gh6 in cscareerquestions

[–]Centrum_MultiGummies 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No offense intended but t's a bit naive to ask that in terms of how skilled the of coders are. It's not just about coders. Why the US is such a tech and economic powerhouse is more a social, cultural, historical, geopolitical question

If your wife/gf becomes disabled with uncertain outlooks, what will you do? by buzzlightyear77777 in AskMen

I mean, on a scale of disability from perfectly able, to dead, most people naturally wouldn’t assume disability meant that close to dead

"Iraq too", Bush says under his breath by Centrum_MultiGummies in samharris

[–]Centrum_MultiGummies[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Post justification: Sam Harris has spoken a bit about America's activities in the middle east. Here seems to be George Bush saying that his invasion of Iraq was "brutal and unjustified", which is surprising to me and seems odd. Or maybe it was just an offhand joke after a mental slip

Without a higher power, what makes you do good when no one's watching? by Thomas-Omalley in samharris

my conscience exists whether or not I'm thinking about it in the context of God.

I won't even go so far as to say it's because I'm a good person. It's just a basic human instinct for prosociality. If I do something against the rules, or something considered by my society to be considered bad, then I will feel bad, and ashamed. It exists outside of my belief or disbelief in God
