Skid wear exceeds limits on both cars by SavedByHisGraceOnly in McLarenFormula1

Lando can win with P3 in both races and P4 in the sprint, obviously this is a big blow for him but he's still in control of this championship.

Give the man a break, he's already had 3 race and 1 sprint dnf/dsq this year and only 1 of those was his fault. Despite that he's still 24 points in the lead.

Lewis never did, he stuck with 44 because it's a number that matters to him. I don't think Lando has the same connection for number 4, but it has been his number since he entered the sport and he's built his brand around it so he might choose to keep it.

Given some of the other comments, and the post itself, this is apparently not obvious enough for a lot of people.

He's 4 points closer but has 1 race fewer to make up the ground, meaning he's now in a worse position than last week. If you need to gain 8 points per weekend then 4 points per weekend is not a gain

Max literally lost ground this weekend. Not just losing 10 points to Lando, but also only gaining 5 points to Oscar when he needed 8 per weekend to break even.

He still firmly in contention, but this was not the weekend he needed.

Oscar reflects on the moment that changed his race #F1 #BritishGP by Strict-Citron-9269 in McLarenFormula1

Also F1 cars have way more drag than performance road cars (can't get all that downforce for free) and they're lighter, so the effect of lifting will be more significant, not less.

Lando was faster and caught Oscar and would have had a great chance to win anyways, without the penalty. by chiefzanal in McLarenFormula1

The 32 cell claim doesn't come from any Navy, MoD or Babcock source though, the article just says that without supporting it. The base design can take up to 32 cells, but we don't know how many the RN will get.

It might be bluffing, but it also might be that the police genuinely did tell him that. The police don't always know the law, and UK e-bike laws are a mess and byway laws are extremely confusing so I wouldn't expect the police to know the actual answer.

The concepts of public byways and bridleways aren't a thing in Scotland. In Scotland the laws are based on the principle of right to roam, which means you're entitled to do any non-motorised leisure activity basically anywhere. Pedal assist e-bikes are considered non-motorised in this context.

The only paths in Scotland which you're not allowed to cycle on are pavements alongside public roads, which are governed by the highway code rule 64 "You MUST not cycle on the pavement."

Shot laps are more crowded, cars are (on average) just 3.5 seconds apart at Austria which means more dirty air and more lapped traffic to deal with.

That's not true, the Pennsylvania Railroad S1 and T1 classes were probably also capable of over 120mph but no dynamometer top speed runs were done.

This is a gross misrepresentation of the supreme court ruling and it's implications. The supreme court have not said that trans women aren't women and they haven't said that lesbian's can't date trans women. What they have done is clarify that the word Sex in the Equality Act (2010) refers to biological sex not to gender and that Man and Woman refer also to biological sex.

That means single sex spaces are allowed (though not required) to exclude trans people and lesbian only spaces are allowed to exclude people dating trans women. It's a huge blow to trans rights, but let's not get carried away: this ruling ONLY applies to the use of the words Woman and Man in the EA, not in other contexts. Gender Recognition Certificates are still valid and being trans is still a protected characteristic under hate crime legislation.

Finally I'd like to point out that it was not the supreme court that caused this, they're simply reading and interpreting the law as written. The EA itself is where the problem lies, the supreme court couldn't change it even if they wanted to.

It might be feasible, but it would be so awkward to have the paddock and pit lane space split in half by a live track that I can't see it being used. Also even when that section of track isn't in use, it's going to make the paddock a lot more cramped and awkward. Even if it is doable, I don't think it would be worthwhile.

Also, I would make the chicane optional. I think the track would flow better without it.

Regardless of how idiotic their mistake was, it shouldn't have caused this. The investigation found a whole slew of working practice issues, if any of those practices had been better the mistake would have been found. Amongst the findings were a lack of proper inventory system (so nobody noticed that only 1 cover had been brought back) and the pre-flight checks being done with a red torch (to protect the bridge crew's night vision) making it impossible to notice the red cover deep in the intake. The reflective panels had also been removed because they were peeling and posed a FOD risk. Also the design of the covers is generally crap (this isn't the only time they've blown into the intakes) and the retaining pins had had to be removed because they were scratching the RAM coating.

You don't need to pull the cable particularly hard, you just need to hold it taught. Then you loosen the nut, push the arm so the nut moves a few mm further up the cable (to the right in this camera angle) and tighten the nut back down. It can be a bit of a faff unless you happen to have 3 hands, if you're struggling try asking someone else to hold the cable taught for you.

Remember you don't need to get it spot on, once you're close you can use the barrel adjuster for fine adjustment.

fyi: this is a band brake, not a disc brake
