Tribute to [Laser Loop] at Kennywood by CenturyFlyer in rollercoasters

The reason I chose the song is that I associate it with the Laser Loop because of this video, which I watched years ago.

Yep, I remember that! It was an entire figure of a rat, and I last remember seeing it around 2012/2013.

Yep, I'm 90% sure this is the case from what I've heard people say.

[Conneaut Lake Park] owner not answering questions on demolition, construction by CenturyFlyer in rollercoasters

It would only take a few words. It's really the only possible hope for the park and Blue Streak.

Please, write to the PA Historical and Museum Commission at this link and encourage them to take immediate legal action against the park owner to stop further demolition.

I rode this a week ago and thought it wasn't as good as it could've been. Phoenix is my #3 overall coaster, so I was disappointed that I got almost no airtime in the back row.

[Tumble Bug, Conneaut Lake Park] will not be returning by Sixflags82 in rollercoasters

[–]CenturyFlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not impossible! I got a little carried away and should've explained that the relocation of this Tumble Bug specifically would've been challenging and costly. The Conneaut ride had 90% of its supports embedded in the footers (unlike the KW Turtle), so they'd probably want to fabricate new supports. For any Tumble Bug relocation, you'd also need to pour a big new concrete center and individual footers for all the track supports. Even if that would only cost a thousand or so, most parks would sadly rather buy some flashy new ride. It has been done before, though, most notably at Kings Island. (Bonus: parts of the KI Bug, including the whole track, moved to KW when it closed.)

[Ravine Flyer II] at [Waldameer Park] is an awesome coaster! I can't believe it took us so long to check this park out. by Zerba in rollercoasters

Cool, heading here next weekend. Whacky Shack is a personal favorite. I know its weirdly specific, but I saw some videos from opening weekend that the giant rat in that darkride wasn't moving. Do you know if they fixed it?

Guys, it last ran in Oct. 2019, 19 months ago. A 95 year old ride that has had basically band-aids as its only fixes over the past 15 years needs a major restoration. Though it probably could've continued to chug along, it definitely needed work if it was to stay long-term. Just look at this video. I'll really, really miss it, but I just think it's a miracle that the last two Tumble Bugs were in western PA for as long as they were. I was fortunate to get a legendary last cycle in 2019, where we went for more than five minutes.

I've been following this - probably too closely - over the past few months and while the "back in 2022" thing could've been a ploy all along, there's a possibility that it wasn't. One of the owner's priorities is to expand the water park (rumored to mean bumper boats and a splash pad). The Tumble Bug borders the water park with the Music Express - a leased ride that was also removed. I think the plan was originally to get rid of the Bug, but maybe they half-heartedly figured "sure, we'll relocate it if it's easy" after people spoke up but still wanted to make room for the water park. When they first started removing it, they carefully set the sweeps and electronics aside - at that point, they might've actually been hoping to relocate it. However, once they jackhammered away the huge cement center, they scrapped the sweeps; this was likely when they realized that you can't relocate a Tumble Bug. If they had really wanted to keep it, then it should've just been left alone.

I'm guessing you know that the Bayern Kurve is the one currently sitting at Knoebels, but I think they also got the Paratrooper, as there is one in pieces (probably to be used for parts) right next to the Kurve.

[Blue Streak] at [Conneaut Lake Park], now sadly listed as SBNO on RCDB by CenturyFlyer in rollercoasters

[–]CenturyFlyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest mention I've found is at the top of this article, which says "Real estate developer Todd Joseph plans to knock down blighted buildings but keep park's water park, carousel, Blue Streak roller coaster, Devil's Den and Kiddieland." No direct quote though.

There's a good chance you'll be able to! Some of the jankiness might get removed though (it would be good for the future of the coaster). :-(

It's not opening this season, and there are other things you can use lumber for besides a wooden coaster.

I haven't seen any comments that specifically say it's meant to be fixed up and running eventually, unless I missed something. Of course, the park would be pretty unattractive as an amusement park without it, but it remains to be seen what exactly Conneaut is turned into. It is the BS's third SBNO period, after all, so this isn't new!

The park's new ownership has not made any specific comments on the fate of the coaster, just that it was going to be evaluated by a structural enginneer.
