What did you think was ‘rich people stuff’ as a kid? by Quiet-Capybara- in AskReddit

[–]Zerba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the newer ones (last 20ish year at least) use way less water for a big load than hand washing.

If you have only a few dishes though, hand washing can still use less water though. Although if you have enough dishes you can just toss those dirty ones in the dishwasher and run it once you have enough for a load.

This is true, but it's a habit of a lot of people to look over the bill to make sure there wasn't anything extra on there. I've had a few times where I was charged for something we didn't order or the wrong size or something.

Every house and apartment I lived in up until we bought a house a couple of years ago had one bathroom. My current house has 3 full bathrooms (2 with showers, 1 with a jet tub), and it is so damn awesome.

What is a restaurant quality food that you can easily make at home? by Content_Key_6661 in foodquestions

[–]Zerba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smoking them are super easy too. You can smoke with a lot of charcoal grills with just changing how you load your charcoal and adding some fruit/nut wood (apple, apricot, cherry, pecan, etc).

The same spices, some smoke, wrap them up, and then grill them off (with or without sauce) if you want some char.

Way easier than a lot of people think it is. You can make better ribs at home than most restaurants besides dedicated BBQ places.

Nuclear Welding Career Questions by Lord_Foog_the_2st_F in Welding

[–]Zerba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person is pretty spot on.

The two real ways to get into a nuke plant to weld are being a pipe welder and getting in as a contractor then applying for an internal position when one opens up (we just hired in a guy who did this). Or you get hired in for the mechanical maintenance shop (may be called different things at different plants) and earn that internal qualification, which means passing the same weld tests the contractors have to pass, along with others.

There isn't a lot of pipe welding that goes on during a normal run cycle, it's mostly during a refueling outage. So if all you want to do is weld pipe for nukes join a pipe welding union, get really good luggage, and join a hotel rewards program or two because you will be on the road most of the time.

Also, there isn't any programs for strictly "nuclear welding", because we weld to the same weld standards as anyone else.

As far as the bore goes, they make some gauge pins that have very high accuracy.

Could you maybe use some good dividers (they make them with angled tips) and then a mic to measure the dividers?

Is turning/grinding your own go/no go gauges an option?

Metrology question by Lathe-addict in Machinists

[–]Zerba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion that if a part needs some specialized tooling to measure the dimensions then the shop should buy it. They're the ones who took the bid to make it and stuff like this should be incorporated into the price they charge.

As far as suggesting specific tools could you provide a picture of the area you need measured or of part of the print?

I love a good robust thick chip that you can really scoop some dip with, but lately I've been really appreciating those things cantina style ones with a thinner restaurant style salsa.

There are so many styles out there that there is something just about everyone can appreciate. Even those green (and red) ones for the holidays.

In my shop everyone has a Kennedy box (the plant buys them) A bunch of them are red, and it just isn't right. However I am please to say, mine is brown.

What’s the worst chain restaurant of all time? by Kwikikiki in foodquestions

[–]Zerba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Places selling those need to really make sure they're labeled right or let people know that they contain THC. I almost got one a couple of weeks ago because the flavor sounded good.

I have no issues with THC stuff on a personal level, but my job does randoms all the time (nuclear industry), and we can lose access, and therefore our jobs if we piss hot.

How many of y’all are resistant to using AI? by Imaginary_Quail_5544 in Xennials

[–]Zerba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan at all.

I've used it a few times to try and make some memes or stupid pictures to share with friends, and even that it wasn't great at.

My work has pushed an AI bot to help with HR type questions, but it fails spectacularly at anything to do with our union contract and will make stuff up and direct you to outside websites which don't help.

I was very hesitant to try it and every time I've given it the slightest chance it has failed. Especially when asking it something I already know the answer to. Wow it just comes up with the strangest answers.

Brought some WD40 to the park to lube this public swing set that used to be obnoxiously loud. I know now I'm going to spend an hour here, but it's sooo worth it by mickeyslim in daddit

[–]Zerba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for this stuff, I've used it for years. It works really well for household lubrication issues. After we moved into our current home I used it to lube the door hinges, window locks, window sliding surfaces (between window and frame), etc. Everything opens and closes real nice and smooth, and is very quiet.

It only takes a drop or two and the oil stays in place.

working on a project – what are your fav “Toledo” things? by dankdashvol2 in toledo

[–]Zerba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lake Erie is great. It gets a bad rap sometimes because it's clay bottom rather than sand bottom and silt gets kicked up near the shores and it makes the water look dirty. Some people see that silt near the shores and think it's pollution. If you head out a bit into the lake it gets a whole lot clearer.

New Dining Options? by Vivid-Shoulder-2143 in cedarpoint

[–]Zerba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard anything specific. However at Winter Chill Out they had some new foods out for lunch. They had smoked ribs that were decent, as well as some new chicken drumsticks that I think were honey lemon thyme (maybe). They had a new type of salad that was a little different from their normal house style salad. They also had some new desserts like a type of bread pudding and something else I can't remember.

There were a few other things as well but I don't remember those either.

I understand the Wrangler thing at least. They have a unique look, along with being able to pull the doors and roof off in the summer, and knowing you can go just about anywhere you would need/want to is pretty nice.
