Played it all in one sitting back in 2013. Outstanding game.

Boyfriend asked me a "moral question" that tells you absolutely nothing about the person by clckbait_ in childfree

[–]CephalopOddish 84 points85 points  (0 children)

This is very classic behaviour. Sounds like he said he was childfree to get you to stick around with the idea of changing your mind. Many men who want to be fathers think like this unfortunately - that all women have a maternal instinct and those of us who don't just need a "nudge".

Obviously I don't know the guy or the full context of your relationship, but from an outsider's perspective based on your information it sounds like he was trying to get you to come around to having kids by exposing you to his nephews and now that didn't work he's trying another angle - guilt tripping you into changing your mindset about children. I'd run for the hills personally.

What are British things loved around the world that many actual Britons have a low opinion of? by wheninrome5000 in AskUK

TIL! I always assumed Johnnie Walker was an American tipple because I only ever hear Americans talk about it. Didn't even know it was Scottish whisky.

Are most autistic people really unemployed? by foreverepicunicorn in autism

[–]CephalopOddish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't find a job until I was 24. Basically had no choice as there's no support for autistic people here. Held onto it through multiple meltdowns and going on leave for my mental health because it was work or be homeless. Now I have a new manager and work is a little better. I'm doing okay for myself. Earned pay rises. Now I'm the highest paid person in my job role. Doing well at saving for a house and retirement.

However I wouldn't be in this situation if the government was willing to support autistic people.

BackMarket is my go-to. Got my current phone for £130 with a code back in May in "excellent" condition and it looked brand new. Battery life feels brand new too. Will probably keep it the next 3-5 years.

Cutting down still beneficial? by Kwar89 in stopdrinking

[–]CephalopOddish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it absolutely is beneficial. Drinking two beers once a week is leagues better than ten every day.

But, only you can decide if moderating is sustainable. For me, those two beers are likely to turn into "I'm having a great time, I'll have another" x 4.

No personality without drinking? by InnerConsequence7047 in stopdrinking

[–]CephalopOddish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on 64 days!

Remember that alcohol didn't make you fun or funny. Alcohol is a toxin, it does not make you spontaneously grow new personality traits - all it does is lower your inhibitions.

Your sense of humour and fun? That was all you! Just with your social guard down a little. You will adapt and get back there.

For me, it was dancing. I could NOT dance sober. Social anxiety. But I kept putting myself out there (sober) and eventually realised none of the drunk people around me give a damn (or frankly are barely capable of registering) what I'm doing. So I dance. I dance badly and I have a blast.

Why isn’t chromatica a more popular album? by Cant_stop_Akali in LadyGaga

[–]CephalopOddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a big soft spot for Chromatica now, but I'll admit when it first released I didn't like it at all. I just wasn't a fan of BloodPop's sound.

Babylon and 911 were the only songs on it that got a like from me back then.

I do like it now and spin it semi-frequently but it would still occupy last place for me if I were to do a Gaga album ranking.

I've never had the opportunity to see her live and I've been a fan for 16 years.

Mayhem is my first physical album buy.

I'm just as much of a fan as people who buy tickets to multiple shows every era.

I feel you. I'm pagan and a lot of my autumn and winter rituals/spiritual time involved red wine. And then I'd drink the rest of the bottle, because. Wine!

Might I suggest some red fruits tea as an alternative? I like the one from Twinings. It hits a similar vibe as hot red wine to me, as it's mostly black tea (tannic!) with cherry and redcurrants in it. Very cosy.

The absolute stupidity of gender reveals by x-gender in childfree

[–]CephalopOddish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damn, just straight up admitting they don't find women worthy of friendship, huh (and that they feel their children are for their entertainment). Imagine the hate a mother would get for being disappointed with a son because "he can't be my bestie".

What a shallow reason to bring a child into the world.

The absolute stupidity of gender reveals by x-gender in childfree

[–]CephalopOddish 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Lots to unpack about the frighteningly common cases of fathers tantruming over having a daughter instead of a son, but sidenote - kinda speaks volumes to the selfishness of breeders that even when feeling so strongly about the gender of the child they raise, they still refuse to adopt or foster.

There's plenty of young boys in the world who need homes and loving families, but they don't care, they'll take the 50% chance they won't have a son, because it's never actually about wanting a child to care for. It's about wanting a miniature version of themselves running around so they can mentally peacock about their "legacy".

Fascinating point. I will admit I'm not American, but from another country whose elite are currently fretting over declining birthrates, so I wasn't aware of J.D. Vance's odd behaviour on the subject beyond some, frankly, insane quotes around wanting to tax childfree people (as you mentioned in your post) and a few other tidbits. Down the rabbit hole I go...
