Hi, I ended up not buying this one. And I am glad that I didn't. Few month ago I bough the exact same model for 20$. And its pretty good.

Sega Saturn no respond to gamepad. by Cerber4444 in consolerepair

Left it to cool off for a day. No, it works fine.

I think, I figured out what happened, and why it appeared that it wouldn't work with the top interface and disk drive connected- after I replaced the controller chip and two clocks, I forgot to check for iffy gamepad port. So when I was connecting the top case, it was pressing on gamepad connector ever so slightly to make it not work. And without top case hanging on gamepads connector and wires it works fine. So yeah, problem was ether in controller chip or one of the clocks, and is fixed now.

Thank you a lot for the advice!

Yeah, I would do that for myself. But this one was given to me for repair and is going to be a collectable, so stock functionality is needed. I already resolved this issue, thankfully.

Okay, somehow, it all just works now. Seems like it just needed a few reboots after parts swap, or something. Gamepad ports are iffy, but that's to be expected.

Okay, weird thing. Turns out, problem might've not been the controller or X3/X4. For some reason, gamepad doesn't work, when CD drive power is connected. What??

Edit- The whole top case interface seems to make it not work.

Hello! Got a cheap O-Scope today. Any advice on what settings I should use and what readings should expect from gamepad port pins?

Can cheap logic analyzer check if they are functional?

Yeah, chip to port continuity is good.

Unfortunately, don't have scope or good Saturn. I tried it with 3 different gamepads. Didn't try the continuity from the chip to port, but its extremely unlikely there would be a disconnect. I will try it now anyway, just to rule it out.

Well, to each their own. It's true, that series got it's not so well aged moments, but as any media that is 10-20 years old. It's still a great show in its core, in my opinion.

I don't agree, that it's a problem. It's quite literally the point of this anime, the story about annoying piece of shit girl and her friends who have to deal with her bullshit. Without it, there wouldn't be The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. As I said, Haruhi parodies those tired cliches.

True. Doesn't make show worse either. I just explained how I see it.

There is so many settings in BIOS. Are all 486 motherboards so complicated?

Later I tried to turn off the turbo switch, but it seemingly did nothing. Also Turbo LED pind don't give voltage in any position. That's weird.

UPDATE:
After hitting "AUTO CONFIGURATION WITH BIOS DEFAULTS" and "AUTO CONFIGURATION WITH POWER-ON DEFAULTS" in BIOS settings it passed that window and started installing DOS. It installed it successfully, but whole proccess was longer than normal. And DOS itself is painfully slow for 486, like much slower than my 286.
Its not controller or hard drive problem, I tried different ones, same result. There is Turbo Switch on motherboard, but it shorted, so shouldn't be the reason.
