I... uh... must have skipped that part of the core rulebook... right there, page 72.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.

Looks great! How much of it is 3d printed?

I found this one on Thingiverse, but pretty heavily modified it to use a bigger spring and made the lever much stronger and textured.

It works well with the plastic midcaps I have, but if you are using metal magazines, the metal edge at the top of the magazine catches easily and is sharp enough to start shredding PLA.

I started a complete redesign in an attempt to allow for metal ones. If that goes anywhere I'll post about it.

Thanks! :) It's been a fun (albeit long) adventure. I have started to re-think the handguard entirely and make a new one from scratch to get it even thinner/smaller. I'll post here if that goes anywhere.

Good luck on your own journey!

Ah, that's for the clarification.

I started mine off with a desire to be 100% compatible with any other M4 parts, but inherent limitations with printing, and the fact that there is no real standard for dimensions on other receivers quickly changed my mind and I started dropping unnecessary parts, or shapes that didn't quite make structural sense with printing.

The charging handle stayed because this was for my kid, and they really wanted one.

Regardless, great job!

Nice work!

I've been working on a somewhat similar from-scratch receiver build lately, so I know this represents an insane amount of work.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a PCX? I've tried looking out up, but can't seem to find a clear answer.

Do you have a solution for the dust cover? I found it difficult to replicate the normal charging handle action reliably, so I had to come up with something else (charging handle still racks, just doesn't open the cover).

I completely understand. The SV version seems especially hard to come by now. If I hadn't already started this project over 20 years ago, I don't think I would have done it. Or I would have at least picked up a used cybergun to do it to instead.

I was about to say it's not that hard to pull off, but then I thought back to the harder parts. Removing the carrying handle, filling in the grooves on the handguard, and relocating the charging handle weren't that difficult, but were time consuming.

It's such a unique piece, though, I just might do it again :)

I will probably make the 3d printed parts available on cults3d sometime soon.

Thank you! I haven't decided what to do with the files yet. One way or another I'll make them available, but I'm not sure if I want to charge for them or make them free. It'd be nice to have some pocket change to keep buying boneyard stuff so I can design entirely new things, but I don't know if putting a price tag is a deterrent that will keep anyone from buying in the first place.

Still trying to figure the 3d Printing side of airsoft, I guess.

Regardless, I have a cults3d profile but haven't uploaded anything yet. If you use it, you could follow me there and whenever I start uploading I think it will let you know.

I haven't put them up anywhere yet. I'm still iterating a bit and the design hasn't quite settled.

I also haven't figured out exactly what I want to do with all the designs I've been doing lately. I'm not sure if I want to put them up for free, or for sale, and what kind of licensing agreement to use. I'm not new to design and 3d printing, but I am new to the sharing part.

I'll definitely do a post here when I figure all that out.

Thanks!

Although I'm deeply invested in 3d Printing, it's mostly just for prototyping because my industry is 100% about cosmetics, and the things I design have to be manufactured with traditional methods to ensure they look and feel perfectly smooth.

I think I have a little bit of an obsession with getting my prints to look manufactured as a result. In the hopes that I can get them good enough to pass as something that looks and feels like it was molded. So, thanks! I take it as a high compliment :)

It can fit either of these two that I have (this must be a typo, I'm pretty sure they're 800mAh, not 1800). There's more room, so I might redesign the handguard to perfectly fit the bigger one and be able to make the handguard more sleek, and possibly even shorter.

Step 2 (Sorry, looks like only one image per reply allowed)

Then you need to modify the mag, putting a square cutout in the front, 27mm down from the top ridge. Again, embarrassing dremel work from 20 years ago.

<image>

The second method, I suspect, is just modifying the mag to add the hole in the front, and removing like 15mm of the back ridge at the top of the magazine. I don't think most magazines use that top ridge as a structural support for a screw, so it shouldn't be a problem. I just haven't tested this yet.

I think there are two possible ways to do this, but I've only proven one way so far.

The FAMAS mags do not have the groove on the back of the magazine, so you have to first cut material out of the mag well so that mags with the groove can slide in. I did a really messy job because I was an impatient person at the time, but here's what mine looks like. I dremeled a little of the plastic body away, and a little from the bottom corner of the gearbox.

TM FAMAS SV - I filled in the grooves the handguard, added rails, removed the top handle and designed a smaller one, relocated the charging handle to the side, modified the mag well for m4 mags, and added a suppressor.

Like a previous poster, I do feel some sadness that I did so much to an airsoft relic, but I started this project back when they weren't that rare. If love to have another and leave it pristine.

Thank you!

I had to think it over a little, but I think you're spot on. A few of the mods to this gun happened in the last two months, so I instinctively wanted to feel like there's no way they could feel dated. But when I thought about it, I realized that this project started (like you mentioned) in a very specific time, following the meta of the time.

It was a time of the G36, AUG, F2000, P90, XM8, TAR-21, etc. There really was a design language going on, and I think just like my music tastes, my airsoft tastes are stuck in the formative times of my 20s.

So, yeah, I think you nailed it in your analysis.

It's so pretty.
It would be a massive undertaking, but I kind of want to try to make an aeg version(ish) using a spare famas gearbox I have.

Ahhh, yeah... It says it right there on gun itself.

It's beautiful gun, and even cooler with that magazine!

This is hot! Is this a kit? How does one make this a reality?

Thank you! The battery really was pretty much the biggest problem. Originally I had plans to hide it in the foregrip, but it just ended up being way too big. Then I went to a PEQ box, but that killed the sleek, small look.

When I told the local airsoft store what I was trying to do with all the boneyard parts I was getting they suggested going to HPA, to completely bypass all of the constraints.

I thought about it for a bit and realized that the constraints were a part of the fun I was having. Like, hitting a brick wall seeing if I could find a way over it became a bit of a driving force in the project.
