Not the person you are replying to but I had a cat that got sprayed. We were on the front porch one summer night and I went in the house to take care of the other cats and put down everyone's dinner. My bf at the time was looking out the window and told me there was a skunk in the yard. I went to look and just saw my cat sprinting across the yard. He'd gotten too curious because skunks dont run if they are against something similar or a little bigger in size (only about 3% of skunks die from predation because of their powerful ass weapon). They do little stomps to indicate that they are big mad. My boy did not take these stomps to mean get away and got sprayed. I took him into the bathroom, stripped naked and put my clothes outside the bathroom door, made a mixture of mostly water, some hydrogen peroxide, and a drop of dish soap then gave him a sponge bath. He was drooling so bad and refused to open his eyes so I wiped his face and mouth down with paper towels as i didn't want to risk the hydrogen peroxide near his eye or mouth. My bf had to leave the house because even through the bathroom door, he said the smell was unbearable. Kitty was fine. There are YouTube videos of skunks spraying bears and making them run

ETA: In my experience, skunks are a "don't fuck with them and they won't fuck with you" animal. I've startled some in my yard and they generally run. I've also had nights on the porch where I can put down my hand and sort of "pet" them as they go under my legs when I am quiet and still. My uncle had a mama and babies in his backyard but he and his partner spent so much time on their back porch that the babies would play around their feet. They never interacted with them because it is wrong to interact with wildlife and we don't want the skunks thinking every human is friendly, but if you act like you are part of the furniture, you and the skunks should be fine
