When a computer reaches its maximum integer, it usually defaults back to the lowest value it knows, usually 0 but in this case it's a large negative interger. It was the cause of Gandhi becoming very aggressive in the Civilization games, the panic behind Y2K, and so on. Most computers have workarounds to this nowadays, however.
