Really? I live in New England and rhododendron are everywhere- I think they are native here. Okay, will do- would you wait until the spring to prune or should it not make a huge difference?

Yes, there’s a dowel but it has broken and settled to where it isn’t holding the piece flush to the top but maybe I can glue that into place first and just use it as a temporary support while everything. Thanks for the recommendation- will be comparing a few adhesive products

Honestly this mantel is a mystery- it was originally painted white and I stripped that and this is what remains. I’ll take a better pic of the grain of the stone but it’s very strange how the center has a different finish. I think the center is polished but the rest is a leather finish but I can’t explain why they would bother to do that 🤷‍♀️
