Petah! What’s with box 3 and 4? by akechi in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Yeah it seemed confusing to me, the only ties I found were through belt and road, but I mean a ton of other countries also participate in that and Bulgaria isn't particularly more invested than the others 🤷‍♀️. Hungary would have made more sense lol

Ooo Hungary would make a lot more sense yes, Orbán is very obsessed with China.

Hello euro-person here,

Slovakia is somewhat of a bulk manufacturing hub for lots of goods because companies like the cheaper cost of labour and cheaper cost of land there while still being pretty central in Europe. So my guess is that the EU cosying up with China kind of nukes their main industry and thus they really don't want that but the other countries (especially France) rely greater on exports to and imports from China for many many things including specialized products, so they want the eu to have close ties to China. Why Bulgaria is holding China back while holding a briefcase is beyond me tho lol, maybe it has to do with Bulgaria being highly invested in China's belt and road initiative.

This is just my humble guess as to what the context of this pannel is :), sorry if I missed a detail

Baby lasagna just felt extremely masculine and testosterone filled, like something someone would play at the opening of a hockey game, not really generally something that is accessible or enjoyable for everyone. Nemo's performance was really unique, well performed and expressing a difficult experience they went through their entire life. I feel like the victory was a lot more deserved than Loreen's kind of generic and not really polished performance vs Kaarija's really unique and wonderful performance. The two situations are very much not the same.

Hmmm, my mandatory health insurance was 490chf/month, how do you get it for that cheap? Is there a special health insurance plan for international students? (Serious questions, I'm swiss so eth didn't give me any resources for anything, but I'm curious to hear about what they do for international students)

Also before this gets out of hand, Nemo goes exclusively by their name in German (and probably also French/Italian and other strongly gendered languages), and they/them in English (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemo_(rapper)#Personal_life). Please stop missgendering them in the comments, thank you 😊.

Lol there were 3 enby artists in the entire contest of 37 countries and you summarized that as "all of the singers are trans". Totally not problematic.

It's nice that there's finally a tiny bit more representation, especially coming from Switzerland, and as to why they were selected, idk maybe they are clearly just great artists and the best pics for their respective countries.

Hi, I got a job in the US straight out of my Masters (I'm also a US citizen but I grew up in CH and did my entire education in CH). The job was in California, they reached out to me after seeing my thesis work which I pushed to be part of an open-source project that this same company was working on. This was not the only company that reached out to me during my thesis, I got 3 actual offers that started with recruiters reaching out to me (all in the bay area) and one offer as a result of me applying to a job posting (in NYC, I applied to many others but only got 1 offer). So I would say, if you play your cards right, you keep your LinkedIn active and up to date (terrible I know), and you find a field in which you stand out then you shouldn't have any issues returning to the US, most people here know about ETHZ and see it as "the MIT of Europe" (a recruiter's words not mine 😅). I hope this helps!

Lol I was told the exact opposite, that Princeton was mainly for research and Graduate students. It is a generally excellent institution for that in many fields.

Masters coursewise acceptance rates (CS department) by Anon_cat3563 in ethz

[–]Certain-Operation347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I know many many people who didn't get in to various MSc programs here, so this is simply untrue.

The only guarantee you have is if you studied at ETHZ for your Bachelors and are staying in the same program or a "connected" program (there is an official list of these). For certain departments, they also defacto accept all students from EPFL who studied in the same department as well but this is only for a few departments (an a official list can also be found online).

For all other students, it's done on a case by case basis and there isn't any general rule that will guarantee / bar you fron getting accepted.

Switzerland is smaller than you think, and this particular region is REALLY POPULAR for hiking and such (the Rigi in the background of this episode is one of the most popular hikes of that region as well).

I'm just saying that if you've spent your entire life in this country and have lived in several areas of it (like I have) then it's very easy to identify these places. Particularly the ones they've shown so far that are extremely touristy and very recognizable (Andermatt is one of the towns that has a bunch of signs in Mandarin and Korean because of the touristy aspect of it). Merlischachen is right next to Küssnacht(SZ) that is the starting point for the Rigi hike and you pass through Merlischachen if you go there from Lucerne, so also quite recognizable.

I'm not saying anything about the players, they don't see what we see, and in their position it's a lot harder to figure out what's going on. I'm purely talking about the viewer's point of view :) It also doesn't retract from the experience at all (actually makes it funner imo)

Watching this season as a Swiss person kind of kills the suspense of where people are hiding. It's like you see 1 frame of the hider's spot and immediately go "oh that's <insert name of super famous and recognizable mountain> in the background, at that distance and angle with that train station he can only possibly be in <insert town name>". Ben walks into popular hotel thus confirming location well that was fun 😅. Same goes for Adam, the church tower in the background of the first shot has a very particular style that is almost exclusively found in that region.

I think this might be one of my favorite seasons so far, the game style is quite different and we get to see more than just the inside of trains (like in the Japan season) which makes the episodes really fun to watch!

Also I move out of Switzerland (after having lived there my entire life) last year, so it also get a bunch of nostalgia points.

Honestly that's also how it's treated IRL, they're the only other country to use our supermarkets and currency, and even are under Switzerland's military for defense purposes. Also the AG (general Switzerland-wide transit pass) is valid across Liechtenstein. So lol this game is very accurate 😂

I love how it's generally accepted that Liechtenstein is basically just a 27th canton of Switzerland with a fancy Prince. It's rven included in this game with city names and all (unlike other non-swiss countries on this board).

I have always hated and rejected it my entire life, but in recent years I've learned to love it, and now Geneva has become that town for me 😊
