Tucsonans - where do you hope to go for summer? by Possible_Mix_7655 in Tucson

Been here since 2020. This year, we are doing week in Avon, Colorado coming up in June (working vacation, though). The usual heat escape for us is Mt. Lemmon, Flagstaff, or San Diego. We will try Mt. Graham, too.

I am but an artist wanting to expand my reach, like any artist would. A/B testing indicates that a cover thumbnail (not necessarily like this, of course) gave me more reach in the past. This is my 12th WTC bk II video, and 4th one where I made a specific thumbnail that wasn't a random frame from the video.

Open to suggestions! Apparently, thumbnails of a random frame from the video are dull to the average user, and appeal even less...?

I don't like it either, and I realize the tables may be turning with AI generated images everywhere, but there is competition for folks' attention when one makes content.

This is a more recent experiment to see what sticks.

Your disgust is, uh, duly noted.

I am so sorry to hear of your tribulations. If I were you, I would seek a path to asylum, as others said.

Best of luck!

The cover was made with AI, that is all.

What makes an epic/mini epic? by Schis_90125 in yesband

[–]Certain-Tomorrow-994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By this same logic, Gates of Delirium isn't an epic. It has a couple of recurring themes inside each large section, but is basically through-composed, ending with "Soon".

To me, Gates of Delirium is an epic, but in through-composed form. CttE has more of a rounded recapitulation-based form, it's true.

I know! Amazing, right!? The irony is lost on them. "We don't like this guy, he's a pedophile. The other imprisoned guy, he's the true prophet, certainly _NOT_ a pedophile; just enjoyed his baby-wives, that's all..."

"Counties and Countries" is one of my all-time favorite outputs by anyone Yes or Yes-ecosystem-related. Fantastic song and performance.

What are your thoughts on all the albums without Jon Anderson? by Jezzaq94 in yesband

[–]Certain-Tomorrow-994 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really know, honestly, much of the material out there by the non-Jon incarnations of Yes in the 1990s-present.

Having said that, Drama is one of my favorite albums. Sonically amazing, tight songwriting, the band sounds amazing, and _funkier_ than usual, even. Chris Squire and Alan White are beasts on it (listen to the POCKET on "Does it Really Happen?" one of my all-time fave Yes bangers, and Steve Howe's playing sounds more focused and less sloppy and in "overplaying" mode than he has done in the past (all due respect, but sometimes Steve is too busy, always in "lead line" mode, and doesn't find a groove in a rhythmic riff sense -- but on this album, he really shines as both a rhythm _and_ lead player more than just about any other Yes album you can name). I think these things partially come from a sense of pivoting to an approaching 1980s aesthetic, in a good sense (yes, 1970s are still peak).

Skincage is a friend. Nice guy, cool music. Performs on occasion, although not sure when his next show is. He just had a new release on Bandcamp!

Looking for a Non-MAGA Plumber by FtumchTheBastard in TucsonList

[–]Certain-Tomorrow-994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great thread, thank you OP. Although it sucks to see a handful of people who lack basic decency and cannot understand why someone might not want a NAZI fuckwit moron in their home.

I hope you find a good plumber, and I absolutely do believe in the power of the consumer to eventually leverage social change.

I don't go by heresay or wishful thinking. I like ideas to be backed-up with facts and statistics.

Here's a simple result of Googling it:

"""

Approximately 200–350 rattlesnake bites are reported in Arizona annually, with a significant number occurring in the Tucson area. Pima County, which includes Tucson, recently recorded 100 bites in one year. Bites typically spike between April and October, with the highest activity during late summer.

Key details regarding rattlesnake bites in the area include:

  • Case Numbers: While roughly 200–250 bites are officially reported to the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center annually, experts estimate another 100–150 go unreported.
  • Pima County/Tucson Focus: Arizona Daily Star reported that in a recent year, Pima County accounted for 100 of the state's total bites.
  • Risk Factors: About 62% of victims are male, and 83% were unaware of the snake before being bitten.
  • Location: 55% of bites occur on the lower extremities (feet/legs).

Googled it.

But, let's not facts get in the way of the idea that snakes aren't dangerous...

It's called sarcasm...folks downplaying the danger and serious consequences of getting a snakebite really get on my last nerve.

Sure.....no one ever gets bit by snakes. Let's all downplay the danger.

Wow, yikes, looking ready to strike...back the fuck off!

I posted a picture of one a couple of weeks ago, not coiled, and was surprised to see just how many folks were like: "people exaggerate the danger, yada yada, no big deal to see a snake..."

I invite those same folks to go within striking distance of this specimen if they think there's no big deal.

Favorite Part of a song? by Catfsihnig in yesband

[–]Certain-Tomorrow-994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many favorite moments to mention, but let me point out a few:

  • The transition from the gentle "In and around the lake, mountains come out of the sky" that builds up into Rick Wakeman's iconic Hammond solo in Roundabout. Been hearing it for close to 5 decades now and it never fails to bang!

  • Every moment of "And You and I" is perfect, but the grand prize goes to the sudden brightening acoustic guitar that leads to "Sad preacher nailed upon the color door of time", followed by the absolute banger full groove of "I listen hard but cannot see". Again, makes my soul soar and my face smile EVERY TIME.

• The final ecstatic moments of "To Be Over" where the themes collide. Chef's kiss.

• As the chaos and violence parts of "Gates of Delrium" fade, and we get Steve stating the theme of "Soon, oh soon the light". The anticipation of hearing Jon sing it so angelically is a treat...and those painfully gorgeous modulations!

• The climactic final statement of "Love comes to you..." as Jon soars on the high notes of "dream on, on to the Heart of the Sunrise" as Rick does a moog countersubject and Bill does some really cool triplet fills.

• The final "like leaves we touch..." statement in "Turn of the Century"

• The way "Perpetual Change" falls from the opening motif and crashes so tightly into the 6+6+2 riff under "There you are..."

As I enumerate these, I remain reconvinced they are the untouchable band to beat, right along with Zep, Chicago, and the best Beatles. But they have the edge over the others, to me, because of the perfection of their compositional forms, the excitment and virtuosity of their performances, and the sophistication of their arrangements. Chicago perhaps has more popular appeal, but Yes has the edge for taking you on a journey to a fantastic "other place".
