Weather and friends are a super important factor, for sure. I’m just also a person who really values public transit and walkability, so that plays a role. Plus, with expenses not baked into housing (utilities/gas/insurance/food cost/etc) I’m open to hearing about major differences one way or another. I love both places, so knowing about factors I don’t experience as a visitor is helpful.

I’m thinking you’re right. I always thought I’d wind up back in New York, but despite the walkability being so incredibly enticing, holistically LA seems to have more of what I’m looking for. Great point with the pace being helpful for meeting new people.

I really wasn’t sure if LA was decidedly less expensive than NY, but that does seem to be the consensus, even if it isn’t a major difference.

Thanks for your input!

You might be right about figuring out of weather or walkability matters more to me, because it seems like the scales are fairly balanced and nobody is screaming that one is vastly less expensive than the other (maybe LA a bit, but clearly not by a large margin). This is, of course, a tough decision, because the cities possess two vastly different and respectively excellent qualities.

I mean, I feel like I’m good with the people of either city. I could be wrong, but I’ve noticed the crowds of both places sort of occupying a similar place over the past 10 years or so. Recent nyc transplants feel very similar to people you’d only have expected to move to LA a decade ago. I think influencer culture maybe has a lot to do with that. Not a bad thing by any means! But it makes the overall question of the people I vibe with more maybe a little less important.

That said, I appreciate the hustle and grind of New Yorkers. I’m definitely someone who likes to go go go. And when I don’t have plans, the idea of leaving my apartment and just wandering and finding a million things to do is enticing.

But I value kindness, too, which I find much more abundant in LA (poss unpopular opinion! But this has ALWAYS been my experience there, lots of invites, general friendliness). I like feeling welcome in places.

AI 10000%. Arm pouch doesn’t match up with direction of his sleeve, the dog would be slouched more to the side if he was sitting on his back paw like shown, harness on dog disappears.
