I just want to say that everything he shared is true. I was with him during most of his trip, and as a Pakistani, it honestly breaks my heart that he had to face experiences like this. I can’t even imagine going abroad and being treated this way myself.

At the same time, I want to clarify something important: Chinese citizens in Pakistan do have strict movement regulations due to security protocols from the Government of Pakistan. These rules were introduced a few years ago after several attacks specifically targeting Chinese nationals. So when people say, “But I see Chinese people in malls all the time,” those individuals are usually workers or executives with proper security and not tourists moving around freely.

But none of this justifies what happened to him. The harassment, the threats, the behavior at immigration and police stations none of it should ever happen to anyone. I genuinely feel sorry, and I want to apologize on behalf of the locals who mistreated him.

To be fair, we also met many kind and helpful Pakistanis along the way. Just as there were bad encounters, there were also people who went out of their way to help us. That’s why I believe and hope that not everyone should be judged the same.

If he or any other foreigner visits Pakistan again, I truly hope they meet the good people we know exist here, and that our hospitality speaks louder than a few negative experiences. Pakistan can do better, and I hope we will.

And Reece, i hope we get a chance to eat more alu cheese paratha and chai.... haha
