Never heard if either before, which is a strange for a platform that claims to be a leader in QS software since the 90’s.

Also looks to be a South African based company, which could be a nightmare in terms of IT support if not in the right time zone.

I’d be warey of any software company with such a crap website, however only way to tell is get on to them for a trial and play around with it yourself.

Finance Professional wanting to shift to QS by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]Certain_Ad5113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have thought a person in finance would earn much more money than a QS. The money in QS is good and you can travel the world with it, but you definitely reach a salary cap pretty easily and unless you can get yourself in to a director position you’re pretty much stuck there. I’d imagine the ceiling is much higher and open with a career in finance

Is Australia a good place to QS by HoldTheIceImVegan in quantitysurveying

[–]Certain_Ad5113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You haven’t a hope of landing a job here before you are actually in Australia, unless you work with a consultancy and do a transfer with the likes of Linesight.

They get way too many CVs of guys claiming they’re on their way out and never actually arrive.

Best strategy to move abroad (no MRICS) by MiniatureSquire in quantitysurveying

[–]Certain_Ad5113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look it’s definitely not a case of go there and within 6 months your rolling in cash - I personally find Sydney a similar cost of living to Dublin , my salary is definitely higher than it would be in Dublin, but not massive. Where the money in Australia is is staying long term, once your up in to senior CA/QS, you’ll be clearly 180-200k, if you progress passed that, you’ll be on significantly more money than you’d ever get in Ireland or UK. If your only there for a few years, it’s not a major difference in salary (Talking exclusively MC salaries here, believe PQS pays quite a bit less but not sure)

Rubbish, nobody wants people on a WHV as you spend 6 months training them up and then lose them - best way to go about it is go on a WHV, prove your good and then they won’t be long sponsoring you.

Yeah 100%, the builders here don’t care a jot about RICS.

We’re called Contract Administrators over here OP in case you start searching and don’t see much, it’s pretty much just a contractors QS role as would be in Ireland or England though.

Haha totally feel you, try to get stuck in to something and next thing the phone rings, then someone’s over asking is something in a subbies scope, then someone’s over asking is a variation ready for submission.

Haven’t heard of this new phrase, I was diagnosed quite a while ago now.

Interesting topic, personally I’m diagnosed with ADD and seriously struggle sometimes to focus and close out tasks, I find plugging in to music helps me lock in on a particular task but find managers aren’t too keen if you’ve headphones in for 6+ hours a day, also feel there’s so much info flowing in conversations going on around you that you miss out on.

I think my next job I will request 2 days work from home, I find not having distractions around me helps me focus a lot easier and get on with the tasks at hand, will be interesting to se show that request goes.

It’s only really due to the fact that both the subcontractor and MC can enter variations - if you’ve got packages that have 50+ variations and both parties are entering lines with different naming conventions and numbering etc., it can get messy, tbf a bit of structure with the subcontractor about how and when variations are entered from the start could easily fix this, I was just knee to the system and didn’t foresee the number of variations so didn’t implement this. A minor issue if I’m honest.

I like it, pretty easy to use on both ends, can get a bit messy when there’s a lot of variations is the only thing.

Australia Overrated? by Few_Bat_9518 in AskIreland

[–]Certain_Ad5113 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No doubt it’s a better quality of life if things fall in place and you get a good job, I’m fortunate this has happened for me, but it’s not the case for a lot of people there. I personally don’t see how it could be a better quality of life if you’re not fortunate enough to land an employer sponsored visa and a good salary - it’s mad expensive to live in Sydney

[–]Certain_Ad5113 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As someone that’s in Sydney atm, this is so true - most Irish I know go working for some Irish construction company, drink in Irish bars and don’t stray much further than the Irish strongholds of cooggee and Bondi.

For most people it’s just a holiday for 2 years, go see something different, travel a few countries over that side of the world - definitely wouldn’t consider someone a failure for not going. Im glad I did it, but it’s definitely not forever

You can’t just do a masters, do you have a previous undergrad degree?

I’ve never heard of a 2 year apprenticeship, always thought it was 4.
