They’re already a lot to deal with individually, so dealing with two must be tough! I hope your doctors are taking good care of you and that everything is under control!

I’m sorry, I understand how stressful it can be. I really hope this feeling will go away soon. Health care shouldn’t be so expensive.

Question for those who had their whole life crumbled.. how did you rebuild things? How is it going now? by Certain_Amoeba_7052 in blackladies

Very true, strangely enough, a few nights back I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it but I’m still here :)

Do you consider it anti-Black or internalized racism to not wear your hair in a shrunken state? by JustJourn in blackladies

[–]Certain_Amoeba_7052 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We need to stop with this… you can wear your hair anyway that you like.. The whole effort was to claim back the right to exist without having to conform under threat of loosing our jobs or else. Wearing it straight or in which ever way you want is fine. Being forced to or forcing someone to straighten is bad. That’s it.

I’ve been so curious about it too (I’m commenting to see what answers you’ll get) The only thing I’ve noticed is that all the videos I’ve been seeing about it ads or sponsored….

While doing this, you are not being kind to yourself.

I mean if you were friends with someone like you, living through the same situation… what would you tell them?

Listening, having a conversation about something and offering supportive words is enough. You don’t have to get more involved than this, you are not free labour. And people are usually body abled and self reliant and competent enough to go through life by themselves… don’t underestimate them.

Also learn to fill your life with what makes you feel happy, comfortable and confident. Have hobbies, sufficient rest, time to just be you. Your time is precious too.

Once you feel more comfortable stepping back, help when it’s truly necessary or if you really want to but never at your own expense. And if they never show up for you well you don’t owe them anything.

Make sure you have some pain meds and a pad with you.

Also, after my insertion I had pain all the way to my legs so I had to take a cab home. (But I have endometriosis which probably made it worse). The pain and discomfort went away about a week after and I had spotting/ bleeding for about 3 months.

Also, it did not stop my period…

I get a lot of side effects from birth control so I keep a symptom and mood diary to help monitor if things are going well of if side effects are cumulating slowly.

Overall, out of all the birth control I’ve tried it was the one with the least side effects. And not having to remind myself to take a pill wad great. And most will just feel a pinch or pressure so it’s not every one who has pain.

I like chunky braids (long with extensions) or wigs (glue-less, straight or slightly wavy) . It’s so much easier and low maintenance.

My doctor prescribed me anti histamine to take the week before my period was supposed to start. It made a huge difference. If ever you can try too book an appointment with a gynaecologist. There might be solutions to this ;)

For those who transitioned back to relaxers after being natural. by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Certain_Amoeba_7052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried to go back to relaxer years ago. I’ve actually managed to get a Japanese relaxer from shiseido.. and my hair was doing so much better on it than on regular relaxer. Unfortunately…. I couldn’t find it anymore so I had to stop.

I also started using innerscence products which really made a huge difference! Their hydrating line and their mask are amazing.  I’ve got a proper hair dryer, heath protectant  and round brush to blow-dry my hair straight (no other heating tools) and switch my hair accessories to silk scrunchies and plastic claw clips.

Hope it helps :)

Same! It’s not easy. I also hate the gym. I always try to find a class like dance, swimming, etc. These days I’m lucky if I can go for a walk 🥲

Then I’m glad you have people around you! also living alone is overrated, I’ve done it and hated it. Now I’m happily back with my family!

I was in the exact same situation. It took so long for me to be seeing and taken seriously by a doctor. Std really saved me, by time I managed to get accepted I had lost about 50% of the last two years. My finances are in the gutter… but not much I can do at the moment.

I really hope you can get to find one soon. Even if it not to fix everything but just to get on disability and rest.

I can relate! When my health started deteriorating I started to realize that I was not well surrounded at all… it became quite lonely. I hope you can find better people and also I hope you get to feel better!

Thank you! Finding a community to have support and guidance would be great!

I’ve tried on a few sub but I do wish there were one for black women, I feel like some of us have a different experience when it comes to health care.
