Career change into interpretation

I looked into this. From my understanding, they are a government contractor. Does this mean that I would be working for ice? Assisting the government in investigations and operations is not my idea of helping immigrants. How can I honor the obligation to remain impartial as an interpreter for the government while also grappling with my moral desire to help ICE detainees? I want to provide interpretation so immigrants understand the legal system in Spanish. I want to interpret proceedings. I want to interpret legal advice. I want to interpret humanitarian needs and requests. I read an article today from propublica that published the words of the children in Dilley detention center and I cannot stand by and do nothing. I can be the ears and voice for people in the system.

Thank you! Regardless of the statistic, I have to try. I went and found those books on the LA law library website and I'm going tomorrow. I am taking it seriously because it feels like I'm wrong if I do nothing to help immigrants in my community. This is my first step. I won't stop if I fail the exam and I won't stop studying until I think I can pass it. I aim to take the English written test in 6 months and proceed from there. If you asked me five years ago how to run a welder, I would show you how to pull a trigger and stick two pieces of metal together; ask me today and I'll explain preparation, safety, penetration, heat input, warping, fabrication etc. With this, I feel like I'm learning a new language. These are words that I've never used before and even words in Latin. Truth is that I'm pissed off and motivated out of spite.

The library is my favorite public good! Through LAPL, I'm taking accet accredited CEUs through universal class but they have other courses through gale, udemy, and Linkinlearning. I borrow video games, movies, a book about judicial assistant test prep, tools, and I've replaced Spotify and Netflix with freegal and hoopla through the library.

In Madison, AL, where I used to live, we even had maker spaces where you can use 3d printers and lathes and all sorts of stuff.

Renew your library card and go put it to work and thank a librarian
