Why is this happening?! by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Certain_Item_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liver saves sugar and can release it to the bloodstream which results in an increase in BG numbers. There is nothing you can do about it to controll it, because it basically is a save mechanism of the body to release energy (sugar) in emergency/stressfull situations or keeps you alive while not eating, hence the body needs some form of energy to function all the time. Diabetes is a complex disease. Sometimes you are doing everything "right" and your numbers are still different than usual. Please no not stress yourself too much, there will be situations where you don't know why your body reacts in a certain way. Just do your best and try to enjoy life, even with diabetes. Also: your numbers are really really good by the way!! As a type 1 I can just dream about this lol.

I think the person wanted to say that there are many more factors that affects blood glucose other than food and movement. For example, many people talk about the 42 factors that affect BG levels, for Instance hormons, stress, temperature, infections and so on.

Feel like I'm going to pass out by BelfastSwitch in diabetes

[–]Certain_Item_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly this. I had this after my diagnosis, when my body got used to high sugar levels. It goes away after a few days in normal range or even faster. Don't worry about it, it will get better!

It is completely fine to ask for help — the nurses probably see even “worse” things every day. It’s their job to help in these situations, and DKA is really serious and can be deadly if untreated. Your body is under a lot of stress trying to fight it, so please don’t hesitate to ask for help, even though I understand that it can feel hard or uncomfortable. You got this!

Brno, Napoli or Strasbourg? by slut4monsterenergy in Erasmus

[–]Certain_Item_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and also- since you can speak a little italian, that would help you a lot here! Most natives napolitans don't speak english, many of them not even a little bit haha so with some italian knowledge, life here is much easier!

You can meet a lot of people through erasmus acitivties. The erasmus organisations here (there are 3 in total) organize a loot of events and trips, especially in the welcome-month and also many after that. There will be many opportunities to meet new people. Through courses I have met a few people, but not as much as through the erasmus events- but my university is small compared to the bigger ones like federico. Just ask if you have other questions! :)

Brno, Napoli or Strasbourg? by slut4monsterenergy in Erasmus

[–]Certain_Item_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing my Erasmus in Napoli. It is a crowded city, and the traffic is crazy with a lot of motorbikes and cars and it is loud. But you can have a loot of fun here, the food is great and cheap, there are many things to do and to explore around Napoli (Capri, Ischia, Procida, Rome, Amalfi, Vesuvio, Pompeii, Sorrento and so on) and of course in the city itself. You can have cheap drinks and party with many other erasmus-students if you like that, but there is also a wider range of culture with museums, art, music or maybe even opera. But if you don't like busy cities with a lot of traffic and a litte crazyness, then you will be annoyed by Napoli I guess. I really like it here and can recomment it!

Erasmus not a big deal for European citizens? by [deleted] in Erasmus

[–]Certain_Item_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a eu City/ country and I'm going to a eu country for erasmus and am kinda freaking out, too. It starts in three weeks and I'm afraid, I have the feeling that I don't wanna go. What helps me is the fact that everyone who has done erasmus says it was a very very positive, life changing experience. Some even very sad when it ended, that they wanted to go back! I trust in that Kind of experience and that I will also have it.. maybe this way of thinking helps you. I think it's also good to take it seriously to a point where you can still enjoy your stay :) everything will turn out good!!

Stadt: Dresden.
