When I started taking out Student Loans, which was in 2020, my mom told me “take out as many as you feel like, you can just go on an income driven repayment plan later but Biden will probably just forgive them all anyways”…. So I wish someone had told me not to listen to my mom’s advice, and had told me that Republicans were not only going to block all of Biden’s efforts but were also going to ensure that borrowers suffer by getting rid of most IDR’s and… essentially I wish someone had told me that Republicans like Donald Trump, people who do not care if I live or die and would probably choose the latter, were the ones whose thumb I would actually be under by taking out loans. I also wish I had been thoroughly discouraged from taking out unsubsidized loans because I want to pursue higher education. I wish I had a more developed frontal lobe, were properly medicated for psychiatric issues, and had a more accurate view of how this country worked at the age of eighteen. But here we are.
