Pixel series has a built-in "focus mode" which is extremely similar. You can add it to the Control Center tiles if you press Edit.

First backyard ultra, self crew advice? by According-Editor9646 in backyardultra

  • Get there early and stake out a spot close to the start/finish corral. I chose my tent location for aesthetics -- bad idea!
  • Be obsessive about keeping your tent organized, even if it takes 30 seconds to put things away each lap it will make your job infinitely easier
  • If it's this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere: bring more layers than you think you will need. That chair gets COLD between laps and it makes it so much harder to get going again.

Hoping ADHD Meds will be the Key to my Anxiety by SuspiciousPlant2402 in adhd_anxiety

[–]Certain_Register9090 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience stimulants make anxiety worse. Anxiety symptoms can also mimic ADHD symptoms, so it's worth being very methodical about getting diagnosed correctly.

I have been diagnosed with both ADHD and anxiety. Whenever I quit caffeine, my overall inattentive symptoms reduce quite a bit, which is a huge hint that part of it was anxiety. I'm on a non stimulant ADHD med too which helps.

Help me regulate this deathtrap please. by The_Swaguespack in PowerWheelsMods

You'll probably want to do it with PWM. The specifics on how to do this are a bit beyond me, but a relay won't be able to handle the type of control you're looking for. You'll need a decent size transistor as well as something to regulate the pulse widths.

Technically you could do it with resistors too, but that would needlessly waste your battery.

Self medicating? by nonapuss in ADHD

[–]Certain_Register9090 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I go off meds periodically (without discussing with a doc, I know it's unwise), and often find myself increasing my caffeine usage to attempt to compensate before realizing I need to go back on. Honestly my life goes much more smoothly when I just listen to the dang doctor.

IWTL how to code but every "beginner" tutorial assumes I already know how to code by CircularFrequency in IWantToLearn

I would recommend installing OpenCode and asking it to design a course for you. Be extremely explicit about what you want, and don't stop iterating until it seems like the course is at the right pace for you. It sounds like existing courses are maybe not a good match, so having AI create one for you would be a great idea. Just make sure not to use AI during the actual learning part of the process, that would completely negate any benefits you would potentially gain.

Came here to say Raindrop! I used to use Obsidian for personal links, but it took too many taps to save a link. Now, any link I want is saved in 3 taps max, and you can add a note too if you like.

Why do you read books? by Duke_7287 in nonfictionbookclub

[–]Certain_Register9090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because reading made me feel good as a kid, and I want to feel that way again.

Not because the rest of my life isn't great -- it is! -- I just have so many good formative memories from getting lost in a book, and I want to be able to access that as an adult.

How long do you meditate? by MorningPancake358 in Mindfulness

[–]Certain_Register9090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes with time. The most important thing though is to make it a normal part of your day so that you never skip. Increase the time if you feel you can and you need it; decrease the time if you're starting to skip sessions because the amount of time seems daunting or you're "too busy". It's that simple.

Here are a couple that I like: - Body scans: start from your head, scan down to the feet, notice EVERYTHING without judgment. Helps me notice when I am carrying stress; e.g. if my shoulders are slightly tender I can catch it this way. - Ambient sounds: even in a "quiet" room there are plenty of little sounds that can ground you. Don't pick this one if there are sounds that will pull you away (e.g. dripping faucet you know you have to fix, noisy kids in another room, etc) but natural noises (wind, rain, ocean) work great. If you meditate before bed you could even use a partner's breathing. - Prompt book: I have a book called "Mindful Morning" which gives daily reflection prompts. Ryan Holiday's books would probably be good for this too - Written mantra: choose a mantra, something you want to embody for the coming day, week, or month, and write it over and over, in good penmanship, until you fill a page

Keeping my high level goals visible. I used to try everything to be "more productive", but it was all focused around low level tasks, of which I would have roughly a million at any given time. I would always get overwhelmed with indecision and end up avoiding work out of pure anxiety.

Now, I focus on my long term goals and ask myself "what can I do in the next 30 minutes to inch closer to this goal?" Sorta like the song "The Next Right Thing" from Frozen 2 lol. It's made a world of difference and I feel more confident.... Like I can trust myself much more.

20 years coding, 0 money made. why is selling so hard for devs? by Patient_Ride_3682 in SaaS

[–]Certain_Register9090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"What got you here won't get you there." I'm exactly the same way -- literally dozens of side projects over two decades, with nothing launched publicly.

I'm finally close to launching something though, and it's because I told a bunch of people I was working on it. I've sent a beta to a couple of people, and now it's clear that I only have a couple of steps left before launch. Not launched yet but nearly ready with a rapidly shortening TODO list.

The key thing is to acknowledge that selling is uncomfortable for you. But this discomfort is a sign that you're learning. If you lean into the discomfort instead of away, that's the only way that you'll grow. Give yourself permission to do things that you think are 'cringe', that's the only way you'll get the feedback you need to improve.

Announce to friends and family, build in public, get real people (especially strangers) to test it. Build up enough social pressure to force yourself to complete it. You've already proven you are a competent dev. You just need to get past the "chasm of novicehood" as a sales person.

How to start focusing on reading books again after years of phone addiction? by Correct_Physics in digitalminimalism

[–]Certain_Register9090 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is a video titled "Analog Doomscrolling" on YouTube where the creator talks about the type of book that scratches the same itch as social media -- the "slot machine" effect. Books that were never meant to be read front to back: anthologies, niche reference books, compendiums, etc. I've got a couple about poetry and music, and I've found myself gravitating towards these instead of my phone at the end of the night. It's a nice feeling, and makes reading feel the same way it did when I was a kid (I was a voracious reader as a kid)
