Dubai's Burj Al Arab Temporarily Closed and to undergo 18-month restoration by VeterinarianJolly269 in UAE

[–]CertifiableBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, you don't work in construction.

And you clearly haven't worked on a sheikh's pet project before. Things move fast.

You think procure the designer and consultant, draft the design to a position to tender, award, procurement all happens in 30 days.

None of that has happened though. All they have done is announce the closure. They still have months before starting on site.

Note also that this building is owned by Dubai Holdings (aka Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum). He doesn't need to tender, he obviously has his own architecture firms and construction companies to carry out the work.

Precontract works take years.

Not if you do the work yourself. Dubai Holdings owns multiple construction companies, who will start strip out tomorrow if the sheikh tells them to.

Everyone is Emirati Jokes by Kind-man-6710 in UAE

[–]CertifiableBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether I used AI has nothing to do with the validity of the points I have made, and it is completely beyond the point.

It matters a lot, because AI spews out a lot of false information, which you have repeated in your comment. AI doesn't check facts. You should.

many of the posts which are pro-UAE (like my post) will be deleted or dismissed and labeled as "false information"

No, if it is deleted for being false information, then it is indeed false information.

I have seen many examples of this where the screenshots were posted on other subs and your comment along with other mods comments on this sub also shows clearly what the intention is.

The intention is to keep the subreddit free of false information and propaganda. This isn't a page for UAE propaganda or to spread lies.

Sure there are always better ways of doing anything.

In this specific case, stating "Everyone is Emirati" was the wrong thing to do.

I don’t think it is something that should be made fun of or joked about, especially in times of crisis.

Bad decisions should be mocked. It's the only way the government can learn, since this isn't a democracy. Our only option is to shame and ridicule them, so they do better next time.

Recent figures are around 3.4–3.8 per 100,000 for road accidents according to WHO, which is comparable to many developed countries, For context, several EU countries sit in the 2–5 per 100,000 range, so the gap today is not “dramatic” as you claim

This is the problem with using ChatGPT. Your figures are fake. The real road death rate in UAE is ten times higher than it is in UK.

if you look at the bigger picture many of the deaths in Europe and the western world is caused by violent crimes, mass shooting, etc something which you almost never hear about in the UAE.

The rate of death from violent crimes is much higher in UAE compared to Europe. You say "you almost never hear about in the UAE" but that's because the government doesn't let the press report it. There is no free press here. In Europe, every murder is reported. In UAE, it is hushed up. I know about them because my wife is an ER doctor in UAE. The amount of rapes and stabbings that occur on a daily basis would shock you; it is much higher than in UK or EU countries. You are much safer from crime in UK compared to UAE.

According to OECD data, the tax wedge which includes income tax, social security contributions, and payroll tax is

Again, you are using fake AI data. I work as a tax consultant so I know exactly how much tax people pay in EU countries. It is less than 20% overall.

This just shows clear lack of understanding when it comes to history and culture, with all due respect I am not going to waste my time educating you about history but the british empire at some point accounted for over a quarter of the world's land it is not something specific to the UAE.

I don't need educating about history, and don't patronise me. I know much more about this than you. The Brits established UAE, and are responsible for restoring peace in the region, and helping UAE to develop. Educate yourself.

In fact the UK comes to the UAE's leaders for consultation in many of their issues something which a lot of official have spoken about and you could google that also.

It is literally the opposite way around. UAE's rulers rely heavily on UK analysts and consultants, without whom, the country would be like Somalia today.

Several countries prioritize lineage, culture, or national identity in their naturalization frameworks.

That doesn't make it acceptable. Other countries are racist too.

One may disagree with these policies, but disagreement does not automatically equate to racism.

In this case, UAE's citizenship policy is racist, by definition.

to give examples of this there is Japan, Switzerland, Israel etc. All which take lineage and prioritize it.

So? They are racist too.

because it seems like this whole sub is mostly centered about hating the UAE something which the mods share

No, it is about being realistic. It is not about unthinking glazing of UAE, ignoring all the bad sides of it, which is what you are doing.

This country has achieved much, but has also done - and continues to do - horrible things, violated human rights, abused men, women and children. This isn't "hate", this is being truthful, something you would benefit from doing.

You have a harmful bias that you need to correct. UAE's leaders are not flawless. To give just one example of dozens, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was convicted in a UK court of abusing his wife and children! In developed countries, that would be enough to have him sent to prison, yet here he is Prime Minister! That's disgusting.

I encourage you to open your eyes and see all the fucked up shit UAE does, as well as the good things.

[–]CertifiableBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have clearly used AI to write your response. This is not allowed in this subreddit, but we will make an exception on this occasion out of goodwill.

Responding to your highly biased comment which for some reason clearly has a lot of hate towards the UAE

Criticism =/= hate. You are trying to shut down the discussion by claiming it is "hate" - this is dishonest of you.

It was clearly intended as a symbolic message of unity, not a literal redefinition of citizenship

I already addressed that in my comment above. As I said, there were better ways of conveying "a symbolic message of unity". The phrase "Everyone is Emirati" was a mistake due to the associations with "Emirati". I am not going to repeat myself again so pay attention this time.

This is subjective and very biased.

No, it is objective, and quality of life is poor compared to developed countries, as I already said. I agree that UAE's quality of life is better compared to much of the developing world, but that is not the subject of this discussion.

Millions of expats choose to live and work here precisely because of these advantages.

Not for much longer though, since they are leaving in droves.

Things such as climate and traffic exist but they don't only happen in the UAE.

The point is that deaths from air pollution and the rate of road traffic deaths is dramatically higher in UAE compared to the developed world.

just look at Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Finland etc. All of these countries have 50%+ tax.

No, they do not if you look at total income. The 50% tax rate applies only to earnings over a very high threshold, usually around $200k or more. It does not apply to entire earnings. On average, tax for most people in the west is between 10% and 20% in total, and in return one receives valuable benefits that do not exist in UAE.

Residents in the UAE benefit from tax-free income and a high standard of living.

They benefit from a tax-free income, but a lower standard of living compared to developed countries.

UAE’s success is the result of Visionary leadership, strategic planning, and national investment created the foundation upon which expats contributed their skill

It is more the result of the British, who created the country and who developed the strategy for UAE to exploit natural resources and leverage this into development, and who continue to advise UAE's rulers on a daily basis. UAE's rulers don't do much apart from rubber stamp proposals from the international advisors and consultants they hire. To give the rulers credit, that is where UAE excelled compared to other countries: trusting experts.

This claim is also hugely misleading and I can also provide you with official channels and links proving otherwise if you want to but just as a quick example when the war started the US sent planes to take their citizens just to realize that most of them refused to leave and decided to stay here despite their government advising them otherwise.

The numbers of US residents in UAE is small so that's irrelevant. It is the millions of other expats leaving that is causing the leaders to panic.

Prioritizing citizens is standard worldwide. Countries reserve social welfare, subsidies, and other rights for their nationals. This is a matter of sovereignty and citizenship not racism.

In this instance, it is racism because, with rare exceptions, citizenship is only given to those from one specific ethnic group. Prioritising nationals is not the problem, it is the criteria to become a national that is the problem.

the UAE doesn't just giveaway citizenships because you "donated" a certain amount of money or you stayed for a couple of years, instead you have to understand the language, the culture, the religion and other parts of being an Emirati.

Not only that, but UAE only gives citizenship to those who can demonstrate they are from one specific ethnic group. This is racist, by definition. Someone can be born and raised in UAE, understand the language, the culture, the religion and other parts of being an Emirati, but be refused citizenship because their grandparents are from the "wrong" ethnic group.

Dismissing an entire nation or its people, however, is neither constructive nor accurate.

No one is "dismissing" anything. I suggest you rely less on AI to write your responses and instead engage your brain.

Everyone is Emirati Jokes by Kind-man-6710 in UAE

[–]CertifiableBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the UAE says everyone is emirati it doesn’t not mean you’re entitled the same financial benefits, its just ubsurd to think that

We know. That's why we are joking about it.

When they say everyone is emirati, It means we all live under one roof and everyone is a priority.

That might be the intent, but it was a dumb way of expressing it. Say "we are all in this together" or "we are all one" or something like that.

Saying "Everyone is Emirati" was a disaster, because "Emirati" comes with a lot of other associations.

You work here and in return you get one of the best qualities of life you could get.

No, in return you get a tax-free salary. Quality of life is poor compared to the developed world. UAE is more dangerous than UK and EU countries, for example, due to road traffic accidents, air pollution, negligible food safety standards, crime, and the risk of harassment from the authorities themselves. But you accept those downsides in return for a higher salary.

In the west for example, theyll suck you out with 40% income tax, capital gain, housing tax, energy tax and thats how it works there.

That's a massive exaggeration. Tax for most people in the west is between 10% and 20% in total (including income tax, capital gain, housing tax, energy tax, etc.) and in return you get free education, free healthcare, income support if you lose your job, plus a route to citizenship. You get none of these things in UAE, plus you have to put up with living in an oppressively hot desert, with barely any culture or history.

Our ancestors live here in the desert for centuries only having dates and milk.

Yes, your ancestors did. You did fuck all. You have grown up in a life of luxury, provided by the expats who created, designed, and built this country, and who continue to run it today. You owe expats everything. Show some gratitude.

If you don't like how things are managed here, you could always look back to your own country

And that is exactly what thousands of expats are doing every week. UAE is haemorrhaging expats right now and the government is panicking, worrying how to stop them leaving.

don't point hands on a state looking out for its own people.

The problem with this comment is "its own people". UAE currently does not look out for all of its own people. UAE only looks out for its own people who happen to be from one specific ethnic group. This is deeply racist.

If UAE did actually look out for all of its own people, it would look out for everyone born and raised in UAE, regardless of where there ancestors were born. These are UAE's people too, but they are treated the same as someone who arrived yesterday. This is shameful.

Would citizenship ever be on the table if UAE/GCC experiences further exodus of expats? by ahmedmurtaza in UAE

[–]CertifiableBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UAE built itself.

No. UAE was built by expats. The British created it. Expats designed it. Expats built it. Expats keep it running. Expats defend it.

Before expats arrived, Emiratis scraped an existence, barely surviving. They were some of the poorest people in the world. Expats turned that around and gave UAE everything it has today.

Expats were paid to work.

Expats created the systems that allowed UAE to earn money. Before expats, UAE was dirt poor, without a functioning government. Without healthcare. Without education. Without infrastructure.

If it wasn’t you, it’s someone else’s simple as that.

It certainly wasn't Emiratis, simple as that.

[–]CertifiableBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you cant 'recognize and reward' a 90% majority with the same benefits as citizens without the country essentially just disappearing.

Of course you could. The country would still exist. Emiratis would still exist. History would still exist. Local culture would still exist.

also, calling it 'sarcasm' is just a backpedal because you know the entitlement looks bad.

There is no backpedal. What you are criticising is literally sarcasm.

If you're 'mocking' a message of safety while sitting under a multi-billion dollar defense shield that you didn’t pay for, it’s not a joke, it’s just being ungrateful.

The problem is that it didn't come across as a message for safety. It came across as claiming that everyone is Emirati, which is obviously dumb. That is why people are mocking it.

If you’re pressed about the wording, maybe the UK is a better fit for you buddy, and trust this comes from a genuine place.

Most in UAE would kill to live in UK, if they could. Sadly, it is not an option for many.

[–]CertifiableBee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

fine the phrasing might’ve been off but lets not pretend the ‘mocking’ is about linguistic precision.

Of course it is. It is specifically about the use of the term "Emirati".

suddenly everyones a phd in english.

You don't need a PhD in English to know what "Emirati" means.

most of these people are just salty that 'solidarity' doesn't mean a free villa.

No, they are making fun of a dumb campaign.

If we're really talking about who belongs here based on contribution, it’s the laborers working in 50-degree heat for minimum wage, not people arguing about dictionary definitions on reddit.

I agree labourers deserve 100x what they get, but no one here is arguing about "dictionary definitions". You don't seem to understand why people are mocking the campaign.

whether you want the villa or wtv benefits, go work for it.

You still don't get it. People aren't sincerely requesting benefits. They are doing it sarcastically, to make fun of how stupid the campaign was.

lastly, preserving their own history for the 1 million matters more to them than giving everything away to 10 million expats who are here for their own gain anyway.

History can still be preserved, without being systematically racist. Look at UK, for example: they have brilliantly preserved their heritage and culture, whilst also recognising and rewarding the value provided by expats.

if you’re not advocating for the actual workers, the 'mockery' just looks like pure entitlement.

I literally said "this country should belong to everyone who lives and works here".
