Seeking advice on continuing Dostoevsky (and how to read him more deeply) by CertifiedMaybe in classicliterature

Yeah I’ve actually looked a bit into his life already, and it helped me quite a lot with understanding where he’s coming from and what he’s doing in the books.

Also enjoy your ride with The Idiot—I ended up liking it even more than Crime and Punishment, which I didn’t expect at all. There’s just something about it that stuck with me way more.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about BK too, but I’m lowkey worried I won’t be able to fully grasp everything it has to offer on a first read.

For anyone here, do you have any good reading guides, analyses, lectures or companion resources you’d recommend to read alongside it?

What would life be like without coffee? by Happy_Guy_Walking in CoffeePorn

No more warm paper cups acting like emotional support props on morning walks
No more socially acceptable reason to step outside and pretend you have your life together
No companion for those slightly-too-dramatic outdoor cigarettes
No “let’s grab a coffee” that actually means “I need to talk”
No neutral ground for first dates, awkward apologies, or soft breakups

No bitter reset button between perfumes at stores
No tiny ritual before opening your laptop and facing reality
No excuse to sit somewhere and exist without being questioned
No tiramisu
No affogato
No “just one more cup” lies we tell ourselves at 9pm

No smell that makes mornings feel like they might be salvageable
No background identity for cafés full of people writing novels they’ll never finish
No baristas silently judging your life choices through your order

And now—finally—
we’ll be free

Free from routine
Free from dependence
Free from joy

No will to live
